Hidden Gems: Meet Jay Strawn of JV Productions, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Strawn.

Hi Jay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi! My name is Jay Strawn, and I’m a 24-year-old business owner based in Michigan. I founded JV Productions, LLC in August 2023, offering video editing, videography, and social media design services. My journey in content creation began over a decade ago with my own YouTube channel, which I launched at age 13. From the start, I was captivated by the art of filming and editing, creating a wide range of videos—challenges, lifestyle, vlogs, and more.

In 2020, I experienced my big break with an editing series where I inserted myself into various TV shows and movies. The response was incredible: my videos started gaining thousands, then millions, of views. By April 2021, I had reached 100,000 subscribers, and within a few years, my channel grew to over 230,000 subscribers and 40 million views.

While this was a dream come true, behind the scenes I struggled with severe anxiety and depression. The pressure and burnout caused me to fall out of love with content creation. As my engagement and income declined, I felt lost, confused, and hopeless. Realizing I needed a change, I transitioned to freelance video editing, launching JV Productions on Fiverr. Working with a diverse array of clients and projects helped me rediscover my passion. From August to December 2023, I dedicated myself to growing the business and officially became an LLC in January 2024.

With my growing workload, I decided to take a step back from YouTube to focus on building my business. During that time, I realized that while I love content creation, my true passion lies behind the scenes. I genuinely enjoy filming and bringing videos to life more than being in front of the camera.

Now, two years into running JV Productions, LLC, I’ve grown tremendously—both as a business owner and as a person. I’ve truly discovered my love and passion for videography. Over time, I’ve built lasting client relationships and meaningful industry connections. I’ve had the opportunity to work on major projects like Runway Rumble, a drag competition based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and collaborate with notable clients, including Kori King, Morphine Love Dion, and DeJa Skye from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Although this journey hasn’t been easy, I built my business from the ground up—starting with small freelance gigs, gradually growing my portfolio and experience. In the beginning, I thought I could balance running my YouTube channel while building my business, but it quickly became overwhelming. Trying to plan, film, and edit my own content while also meeting deadlines for clients proved to be too much. Eventually, I had to step back from YouTube and social media to focus on my work and growth. There were moments of self-doubt where I questioned if I was qualified or even capable of running a business. The truth is, I didn’t have all the answers—but I was learning, adapting, and growing every step of the way.

JV Productions, LLC offers professional video services including video editing, videography, and social media design.
I specialize in editing for content creators and businesses. My experience spans a wide range of genres—real estate, cooking, lifestyle, vlogs, gaming, and podcasts. I’m best known for my work with drag performers from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
In 2025, I expanded into videography, capturing a variety of drag events and creating both long-form videos and short-form promotional content that highlight the energy and artistry of each performance.
What sets me apart is my background as a content creator myself. With years of hands-on experience building my own brand, I understand what it takes to craft eye-catching content, connect with audiences, and navigate the ever-changing social media algorithms.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve always believed in the power of hard work and dedication. Over time, I’ve learned that when you stay focused and committed to your craft, the results always follow. I’m passionate about what I do and constantly push myself to learn, grow, and improve. Success comes from believing in yourself, staying positive, and never stopping the hustle.
