Check Out Lauren Hixson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Hixson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My path into photography began in the mountains of Colorado. While earning my Doctorate in Physical Therapy, my husband bought me my first camera so I could capture our mountain adventures together. What started as a way to preserve our own memories quickly became a creative calling—I found myself drawn to the way light, emotion, and environment could tell a story far beyond what words could.
When we moved back to Michigan in 2019, I began photographing friends and family, simply following that creative pull. That summer, I photographed my first wedding in Chicago, and something shifted. I realized I wasn’t just documenting a day—I was capturing a legacy.
That was the moment LoHi Images was born.
What started as a passion to capture our own story has evolved into a brand devoted to preserving others’—with the same sense of artistry, connection, and timeless elegance that first inspired me to pick up the camera.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely been a journey of growth and grace. LoHi Images grew very organically—what started as a creative passion turned into a full-fledged business almost overnight. Then, like so many others, COVID threw us all a wrench. Weddings paused, plans changed, and the entire industry had to adapt.
The following year, as things began to pick back up and I was preparing for my busiest season yet, I found out I was going to be a mom. And then, just a year later, a mom again—to twins.
Motherhood has completely transformed the way I see and photograph love. It’s deepened my perspective and taught me to find beauty in fleeting, imperfect, incredibly human moments. That shift has shaped my approach to every wedding I document—rooted in presence, emotion, and legacy.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a luxury wedding photographer based in Michigan, specializing in timeless, editorial-style imagery that feels both refined and deeply personal. My work blends documentary storytelling with an editorial eye—capturing not just how a day looks, but how it feels.
LoHi Images was built around the belief that photography should be more than beautiful images—it should tell the story of a legacy in the making. My approach is very intentional; I focus on natural direction over posing, authentic connection over trends, and creating an experience that feels effortless and elevated from start to finish.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my couples place in me. Many tell me that their gallery feels like a reflection of who they are—not just what their wedding looked like. That, to me, is the highest compliment.
What truly sets LoHi Images apart is the balance of artistry and emotion. I bring a calm, grounded presence to every wedding while ensuring every frame feels refined, cinematic, and timeless—images that will hold meaning for generations to come.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that growth often happens in seasons—both personally and creatively. Early on, I thought success meant constant momentum. But over time, I’ve realized that slowing down, embracing change, and staying rooted in purpose allows your work to evolve in the most meaningful ways.
Motherhood taught me that deeply. It reminded me to see the beauty in fleeting moments and to create from a place of presence rather than perfection. That perspective has transformed not only how I photograph, but how I connect with my couples—the stories I tell now hold even more heart, depth, and intention.
