Hidden Gems: Meet Nicole Goodrum of glo studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Goodrum.

Hi Nicole, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey to founding Glo Studio has been a complete evolution, starting in the high-stakes world of corporate fitness. I spent years managing a fitness giant in a major city, which gave me invaluable experience in leadership, operational efficiency, and understanding client needs at scale. However, over time, I noticed a significant gap in the industry: while large gyms offered impressive resources, they often lacked a truly posh, full-rounded wellness experience and, crucially, a genuine sense of community. The focus was often on volume, not holistic care. I felt compelled to branch out and create a version of fitness that bridged that gap.

My personal journey mirrored this professional shift. I originally focused on weight training, believing pure strength was the only path. But after watching friends who were competitive lifters sustain serious injuries, I realized my body needed balance. I signed up for my first yoga class, feeling completely intimidated, but I walked out of that session feeling absolutely incredible—lighter, calmer, and mentally sharper. I was hooked, and I practiced religiously for over a decade.
The true catalyst for Glo Studio came when I relocated to a small town in Michigan. I searched for the elevated, immersive style of yoga I had experienced in the city and simply couldn’t find it. So, I decided to create it myself and my new community. I dedicated myself to advanced training, studying under industry expert, Cathy Madeo to obtain my 500-hour YTT.

Today, Glo Studio is the realization of that vision. I’ve brought life full circle by creating a beautiful, inclusive studio that offers holistic, personalized bodyweight fitness by offering Yoga, Pilates, Strength Training, and Infrared Sauna Therapy (for deep recovery and healing). We are proud to be a local destination that prioritizes quality, community, and genuine self-care, proving that world-class wellness can thrive right here in small town Coldwater, Michigan.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“Smooth” is definitely not the word I would use! The road has been rich with challenges, but I see those moments as the most critical part of building the strong foundation we have today. The biggest initial struggle was pivoting from the infrastructure of a major corporate fitness giant to building a boutique local studio from the ground up. In the corporate world, everything is standardized; here, everything had to be customized, from the floor plan to the financing.

The second major challenge was the relocation to a small town in Michigan. The fitness culture is entirely different. I had to quickly learn how to translate a high-end, urban-style wellness product—like Vinyasa and Pilates—to an audience that hadn’t experienced it before. There was no instant audience; every client had to be introduced to the concept of holistic bodyweight fitness. The lack of a pre-existing wellness community here wasn’t a roadblock—it was the mission. It forced me to become hyper-focused on creating a truly warm, non-intimidating space where everyone feels seen. That’s why community is now so central to our brand.
Leaving the “fitness giant” allowed me to strip away everything that wasn’t essential and invest in what truly matters: expert instruction, specialized recovery tools like the Infrared Sauna Therapy, and personalized attention in every single class. Every challenge I faced—from finding the right location to educating the local market—has ultimately made Glo Studio a more resilient, deeply purposeful, and authentic wellness destination.

We’ve been impressed with glo studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Glo Studio is not a big-box gym; it is a boutique wellness destination rooted in the heart of Coldwater, Michigan. Our mission is to fill the critical gap we observed in the larger fitness industry: the disconnect between intense physical training and genuine, holistic well-being. We offer a space where high-level instruction meets authentic community.

We specialize in high-quality, bodyweight-focused fitness and deep restorative recovery. Our goal is to equip our clients with the knowledge for a lifetime of strength, not just a temporary workout plan. We offer specialized classes in Yoga, Pilates, and Strength Training. Our instruction goes beyond basic choreography; it’s informed by years of advanced study, ensuring every client receives precise, form-focused guidance, whether they are a beginner or an advanced practitioner.
We are known for integrating Infrared Sauna Therapy directly into our wellness model. Unlike traditional saunas, our NFL-backed Sunlighten saunas use infrared heat for deep, therapeutic benefits—from detoxification and muscle recovery to stress reduction. This focus on active recovery sets us apart from any standard gym. We combat the cold, anonymous feel of corporate fitness by prioritizing genuine connection. We offer personalized one-on-one sessions and host fully customizable events (including bachelorette parties and holiday celebrations) that bring people together, making wellness a shared, joyful experience.

Brand-wise, we are most proud of the posh, elevated experience we created here in a small town. We proved that world-class, sophisticated wellness and specialized recovery services—like our Infrared Sauna Therapy—are not exclusive to major cities. We built it here because our community deserves the best, and our high standards for safety, instruction, and cleanliness reflect that commitment.

We want the readers of Voyage Michigan Magazine to understand that Glo Studio is their partner in stress management and long-term health. You Don’t Have to Choose: You don’t have to choose between finding inner peace through yoga and building true physical power through strength training. We offer both, guided by expert instructors who teach you the precision required for a body that moves with confidence and resilience. Life in Michigan is busy, but we provide the necessary tools to combat its effects. From our unlimited virtual sessions you can stream anywhere, to our deeply restorative infrared sauna sessions, every service is designed to help you build physical and mental strength to truly enjoy your life.

Join the Glo Studio community and discover how good life feels when you prioritize your balance, your strength, and your self-care.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The fitness industry is currently undergoing a significant shift away from the “more is better” intensity model and moving toward a model focused on longevity, recovery, and holistic integration.

It’s important to remember that the foundations of what we teach are ancient: Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years, and Pilates has been developing since the early 20th century. These aren’t trends; they are time-tested systems.
In the next 5–10 years, the industry won’t reinvent these core movements, but rather the delivery system and tools used to amplify the benefits. We see four major shifts: The pandemic permanently cemented the need for at-home access. The future isn’t just about streaming classes; it’s about seamless integration. Customized Digital Guidance: The combination of our expert-led classes with our fitness tracker and virtual sessions allows clients to train efficiently whether they’re in the studio or traveling. This personalized, hybrid experience will become the standard. We are already seeing a massive shift from clients focusing solely on intensity to prioritizing recovery. Wellness tools previously reserved for elite athletes are now becoming mainstream. Specialized Recovery as a Core Service: Tools like our Infrared Sauna Therapy and Compression Boots will transition from “add-ons” to essential components of a membership. Clients want to feel confident that their studio is not just making them tired, but actively helping them heal and repair. This is the longevity focus. The industry will demand more data-driven, precise programming. Clients want instruction informed by science, not just enthusiasm. The Rise of the 500-Hour YTT & CPT: The value of instructors with advanced, specialized knowledge (like a 500-hour YTT or Certified Personal Trainer) will skyrocket. The market will move away from generic classes and toward one-on-one sessions and specialized workshops that teach clients why they are moving a certain way.

Our Vision for Glo Studio in Five Years
In the next five years, we hope to offer even more integration by becoming a centralized Wellness Hub for Coldwater. This means expanding our private service offerings to include partnerships with more local experts. Our goal is to serve as the local hub that not only helps you move and recover but also helps you manage your total health and well-being.
