Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophie Gragg.
Hi Sophie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up I was always fascinated with everything dog. My family always had a dog and our second family dog had some behavioral issues. He was extremely fear reactive to the point that one day he bit the neighbor. He had to have a behavioral evaluation done and go through some training courses in order to avoid Euthanasia. I was so intrigued by the process that I did all of his training and he completed all the required courses! A couple years later I got my first personal dog, Storm. She is hands down one of the best, most intelligent dog’s I’ve ever met and she has taught me so much! I got into the sport dog and service dog world through her and she has been an invaluable training partner for my business. She helps both human and dog clients learn!
Through the years of training dogs, not only had my knowledge grown immensely, but so has my passion! I love being able to give owners and dogs a relationship and freedom similar to my own dogs!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly the hardest part of what I do is how competitive Grand Rapids is. There are SO many dog trainers here and so many different training styles. However, I know the right clients and dogs will always find their way to me. I normally end up with a lot of challenge cases other trainers/companies couldn’t help.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Canine Unity?
I specialize in board n trains for dogs, dog reactivity, mindset work and Service dog training! I recently changed my board n train program to send dogs home on the weekends! Most/if not all board n train companies keep the dogs the full 2, 3, 4 weeks etc. I have found through sending the dogs home on the weekends it helps ensure all training is transferring and I can troubleshoot any issues the following weeks! In addition to that, a lot of people miss their dogs and it helps break up how long they go without seeing them!
Aside from the board n trains, I do offer one on one sessions. This is a great option for people who want to learn right along side their dog and have time to do most of the work! This is also a better financial option for some!
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Helping owners be able to enjoy all the adventures with their dogs! We only have them for a short while and I am a firm believer in letting your dog integrate into as much of your life as possible!
Pricing:
- Board n trains start at $2,300
- One on ones are $125 a session
