Conversations with Erin Jewell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Jewell.

Hi erin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a reiki master, medium, and dream doula that has been practicing reiki and other mystical arts for the better part of a decade. A lifelong intuitive, indigo, and highly sensitive human, i began to dabble in oracle cards after a deep personal loss, trying to regain a sense of grounding and belief. I got trained in reiki and received my attunement as a minor act of rebellion, while i owned a yoga studio with my sister. Not ready to take the plunge into yoga teacher training, i was seeking ways to enhance the offerings at the studio, while (as always) forging my own path. So i found an online training and received an attunement over distance.

I actually didn’t feel like reiki was for me initially, until i started practicing on others with more frequency and intention. The recipients seemed to feel the shift in their energy and so i kept going. Once i was doing a distance session for a friend and just HAD to tell her that she needed to slow down and “cook the beans” which is not something in my life experience, or vernacular. I took a chance and said those words, and she knew it to be a message from her Granny. Since then, i’ve been a medium – getting messages especially from sassy grandma’s.

Initially, i only practiced mediumship within the confines of a reiki session but now my experiences are my fluid, depending on the needs of the individual. And not all reiki sessions are full of messages from the beyond, some of them as simply a chance for energy to be refreshed, and a person to rest fully and completely. After almost a decade of working with energy, at this point it’s all very intuitive and i trust myself to listen to what a person needs in that moment.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest struggles for me was belief!
I had some signs that reiki was working, for example at the start of a session when i activated the reiki connection my hands would get really hot. But it’s such an amorphous thing and individual experience it’s hard to SEE tangible results. So i had to rely on input from others a great deal.

Early on i was really frustrated with myself for not being able to stay “present” with a client. I always tried to go to the same mental space, but one session i just couldn’t shake it. So i confessed to the client and told them that i always tried to stay focused on a single image in my head, but i kept being drawn to the image of brass daybed in a white room, with white curtains blowing in the wind, and the sound of waves. She revealed to be that it reminded her of her Grandmother’s cottage. That was a shock to my system to say the least, and i realized how much i had been sitting in disbelief and holding myself back.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a reiki master by trade, but throughout the years it’s grown into so much more than that. The focus of sessions seem to shift with the times and i find myself moving through whatever the collective is on task to work through. But to put a name on it, some of my most profound work has been working through ancestral trauma. Energy just wants to be witnessed, and released and reiki is an avenue into the energy stuck in your body, that just needs to be seen to be released.

Aside from individual reiki sessions, i love working with people for the long haul. My signature program is a year long, and i work with individuals daily to focus on moving through old habits and energy and working toward a more aligned future.

I’d like to think that what sets me apart is that i’m approachable. I have a strong respect for spirit and for the work that i do, but i believe strongly that this kind of magic should be accessible to everyone. As such, i do my best to explain things easily, answer questions and keep sessions a balance of sacred and irreverent.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think the most important characteristic of my success is flexibility. I’m not one to keep repeating things just because it’s the way it’s been done. It’s imperative that we hold some traditions sacred, while adapting them to the world we live in and meet people where they are – with realistic expectations on both sides of the equation both as a professional in the healing arts and as a recipient.
