We recently had the chance to connect with Katelynn Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Katelynn, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Music. It’s always been at the heart of everything I do. Whether I’m playing guitar, singing, dancing around the kitchen, or just getting lost in a favorite song, music has this way of grounding me while letting me drift. It brings comfort, calm, and a sense of connection like a familiar rhythm that helps me reset and come back to myself.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Katelynn Scott, and I own Katelynn Scott Interior Design. We’re a full-service design studio that helps clients bring their spaces to life from start to finish. I really believe in creating beautiful, functional homes that reflect who you are and how you live.
The process starts by getting to know you and your lifestyle so we can design a space that truly feels like home. We handle everything from mood boards, sourcing, and 3D renderings to ordering, tracking, and final installation. My favorite part is seeing it all come together and watching people fall in love with their home again.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe I had to please everyone and that other people’s opinions defined my worth. What I’ve learned over time is that the only opinions that really matter are your own and those of the people closest to you. People pleasing only pulls you further away from who you really are.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Give yourself grace. Life is a journey, and you’re on a beautiful ride. Slow down. You don’t have to push so hard to make everything happen. Trust that it will all unfold in its own time, in its own way.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Where I think smart people might be getting it wrong today is in how much we’re relying on technology to do everything for us. AI and tech are incredible tools, and yes, they make our lives easier but at the end of the day, I believe business is still rooted in connection. Real, human connection. People still crave interaction, conversation, and presence. I wish we put more value on slowing down, unplugging, and being face-to-face with others. There’s so much power in simply being present.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I treated everyone with kindness and respect, and that I lived my life authentically. That I brought beauty into the world, made people feel seen and valued, and sparked a little more joy wherever I went.
