Check Out Alex Boyd’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Boyd.

Hi Alex, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got into jewelry and watches about 20 years ago, In 2008 I went to the GIA in Carlsbad Ca. and got my Graduate Gemologist degree. Now I am the Jewelry appraiser for all Lucido locations, I also work on my jewelry line Abundance Jewels in my free time. I spent my life living in Los Angeles and relocated to Michigan (Where my wife is from) one year ago.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My aunt and uncle who got me into Jewelry both died of cancer in 2020, they died 3 weeks apart. My wife and I dropped everything and did Hospice for them until they transitioned, at that point I felt like giving up on jewelry, the world was shut down in the height of COVID hysteria. The business can rip your heart out sometimes. This made me super resilient. Now I use them as a tribute to make them smile down on me and my family.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Jewelry and Watch appraisals for insurance purposes. I also specialize in handcrafted one of one jewelry designs as I have a wonderful team I am surrounded by who help me live my artistic vision. I have made pieces for influencers and entertainers. I made a pendant for Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis which utilized his beloved dog Dumbledores ashes being made into a lab created red diamond. I also fixed a Grammy and re-gold plated it for the late great Legendary Sergio Mendes. I also made a prince tribute ring that I am pretty proud of that was probably my favorite, or maybe a Les Paul Gibson replica pendant for a Vintage Les Paul collector. which was really hard to make because the strings on it kept having to be recast.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Resilience, being true to yourself. Not selling out. Learning from your mistakes.
