Daily Inspiration: Meet MC CUBED

Today we’d like to introduce you to MC CUBED.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was about 4 years old in 2009, I was downstairs in my family room watching Dexter’s Laboratory, amongst other cartoons; this is what started my creative journey, as the first thing I wanted to do what become a voice actor.

I would often hear rap/pop songs in movies and shows or sometimes at school and that’s what made me want to become a musician, specifically a rapper. I heard Ludacris rap on Justin Bieber’s “Baby” was the coolest thing ever, like I wanna come out on stage rapping impressively with a megastar, heh. Combined with various musical outlets as school, church, the Detroit Children’s Choir and the Ypsilanti Youth Orchestra, I’ve always been very musically inclined. I would eventually get interested in digital musical production in middle school, as the idea of making your own songs by yourself in that format was very appealing to me.

Fast forward to 2020, when I was in 10th grade, and the entire planet shutdown due to COVID, I took a good hard look at the entertainment industry as a whole and I didn’t like what I saw: animators being treated poorly, musicians (whether the stars or behind the scenes) being treated poorly, voice actors being treated poorly. It really got on my nerves seeing people in the mediums I enjoy being poorly mistreated, and I wanted to do something about it. Eventually I came up with the idea of starting my own animation and music collective entitled CI², fully realized on January 28th, 2021.

CI² stands for CREATIVITY IS INFINITE, it’s my belief that creativity should not be hindered by hindered by anyone or anything, especially corporate greed and business malpractices, and my hope is that one day, the artists, animators, musicians, voice actors, and other creatives that I work with can shine on the global stage and make generations of people, including the younger ones, filled with happiness and joy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s been many… MANY ups and downs, a lot of them boiling down to my mental state and my upbringing. I didn’t have a ton of friends growing up, most of them came from church. In elementary I had a few, in middle/high I had next to none (like… a couple here and there, if that). In middle school, I was bullied pretty much every single day, which made me incredibly depressed. It wasn’t until the “COVID era” that things started to get smoother for me because I was able to work on projects more easily by being at home. If anything, COVID is was jumpstarted my career as my debut album came out months after lockdown was initiated, in addition to me featuring on my friends’ first musical project as well coming out months before my album.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make music, I draw/animate, and I voice act, amongst other things.

I’m most proud of the fact that I have a steadily growing audience online and that a lot of people in communities I’m in resonates with my goals/missions.

What sets me apart from others is that I’m not in this because I want a lot of money or people chanting my name from the rooftops. I’m in this for the idea of creativity itself: honoring creatives past, upbringing creatives present, and inspiring creatives future.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
If I listed every single name along with everything they’ve done then I would be here for ages XD

Firstly, family members such as parents, siblings, and others have been motivational (also thank you Dad for buying me a ton of stuff lol I owe you)

Second, and probably the most important, my fellow creatives who help me out and inspire me every single day: voice actors, animators, writers, musicians, and many many others.

When COVID shut down, my friends and collaborators KA$H and Ay Jay Em were the ones who got me on music platforms, and then eventual collaborators Jinx & Flyco have help kept this spark alive and still do to this day as I move into other creative ventures.

When I started CI², people like my fellow creatives Piper “pip”, Amelia Costanza, MariusWales, G-Luv, and many others were there since before day one. and offered to help out in any way they can. Then others like my prior friends Tigress, TMNTSam, Nosha, Dominic, Solomon, Shamarion, Natalie, Savannah, and many, many others joined the ride and have helped keep this thing afloat, I work closely with all of them to this day.

And then there’s Koll, goodness, Koll has literally been there for me every step of the way since we became friends. CI² literally would not be what it is without him and I thank him literally every single day for being there. He’s basically the brother I didn’t have back then but I’m so glad I have now. Love him so much.

I’m incredibly grateful to everybody in CI² right now, them being here means they decided to join me on this infinite journey of many goals, with the primary being igniting the creativity of every generation.
