Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Carpenter.
Hi Eric, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started when I was 13 my dad had an office down the rd from a shop that offered 12 volt electronics and auto accessories. I began hanging out there every chance I got, they allowed me to help around the shop for free and started showing me basic electrical installs. As time passed, my passion for cars grew and I started teaching my self how to tint windows by watching youtube videos. As I got better, I gathered the courage up to ask clients if they wanted their windows tinted for free. I quickly became very proficient in the window tint field and started charging for my skill. Highschool then rolled around and I took classes in auto shop which quickly grew into “Erics tint shop”. I would tint multiple cars per week out of school and on the weekends. My name and reputation began to grow and so did my clientele. After high school I tried college and quickly found that it wasnt for me. I jumped online and found a trade school in California for window tinting. I attended the classes and after the first day my instructor could tell I had already been tinting for a long period of time so he pulled me to the side and asked if i wanted to do an apprenticeship and learn the ins and outs of the industry on more than just a installers point of view but the business side as well. After some time I moved back to Michigan and started A2 Tints which quickly became A2 customs as our clients grew and services grew.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles have always been the same as any other business. Whether it has been staffing or the economy. But we have been very fortunate to be based in a thriving community.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are one of the largest automotive window tint and vinyl graphic shops in Michigan. We are well know for our window tint services and paint protection film installation services. What really sets us apart from our competitors is our attention to detail and our knowledge of products. We are 1 of 2 3M pro shops in Michigan. Meaning we have met all the criteria and certification to provide some of the best installs around. Also being recognized by the national skin cancer foundation ensures our customers get a product that not only looks good but protects them too.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Its hard to say. It seems that in that last couple year’s sales across the board have jumped due to people caring about their vehicles more because people are buying more then leasing. I also see a growing trend in offering our services in homes and offices to protect their windows as well.
