Life & Work with Ashley Zamora of Detroit, MI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Zamora.

Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Our story began during a family dinner in Michoacán when my two-year-old son wanted to use a traditional clay plate like everyone else. When the plate inevitably broke, it sparked an idea: why not create traditional designs specifically made for little hands? This moment of inspiration led us to collaborate with local artisans in Mexico and develop partnerships with manufacturers worldwide. Today, we’re proud to offer products that blend cultural authenticity with modern safety features. Each piece is double lab certified, features enhanced suction cup technology, and carries forward the beautiful artistic traditions of Latin America. Our growing collection represents our commitment to helping families create meaningful connections through culturally rich, safe, and accessible products!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting and growing AneliaCo. has not been an easy journey by any means and we have had to overcome many obstacles throughout the last two years! My professional career was in the medical field, with no relation to business – in addition, being the first in my family to attend and complete college meant that I was going to be teaching myself a lot about starting and running a business – I am still learning new things every single day. The next struggle we faced was the inevitable, finances. We took a big risk during the initial startup; we had a lot of passion for our brands meaning, connection with our products, and faith that others would love AneliaCo. as much as we do – but we did not have a lot of money to start things up with. We took our entire savings and put it into ordering our first batch of products – which, thankfully, you all loved as much as we do! This allowed us to begin our growth journey to introduce and invent new products/designs (with hopefully many more to come)! Our last, and probably biggest hurdle to overcome, which we are still figuring out is how to navigate parenthood, our working lives, and grow a business simultaneously. Enzo was the inspiration for our brands initial startup and with another little one on the way – we are doing our best everyday to be the most amazing parents possible, while also balancing our love and time with our growing brand!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My proudest professional accomplishment (aside from the startup of AneliaCo.), is that I am a Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse. I spent many years in school to obtain my bachelors degree in nursing, as well as put in nearly 6 years of bedside nursing. During that time I had the honor of taking care of some of the strongest, resilient, and most loving babies and kids. I worked in the heart of Detroit, Michigan and through the chaos, long hours, emotionally challenging days/nights; I would not trade my profession for the world. In addition to my time as a bedside nurse, I also had the privilege of volunteering on multiple international medical mission trips – during this time, our team of nurses, pharmacists and doctors were able to travel throughout Costa Rica and Belize to offer our services and supplies to those needing it most! ‘Humbling and life-changing’ would be an understatement!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
During my downtime, I love to sit down with a good thriller/suspense book! Some of my favorite podcasts lately have been “yoquierodinero” (great for latinas in relation to finance!), “twoparentsandapod” (fun parenting content), “themotherhoodkit” and ‘theMVPgame”!
