Melanie & Josh, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
The time, attention to detail, and particularity that it takes to make every single order right!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are Josh & Melanie Inman, a husband & wife team that run our business exclusively on our own. We offer screen printing, embroidery, sublimation, laser engraving, uniform orders, basic signage, banners, and promotional products. I think what makes working with us special is that we handle the entire process- start to finish. You can be assured that we have handled every item, from ordering the blank, setup of the print process, quality during the print process, to boxing the order up, verifying quantities and sizes! We are a true mom & pop shop, even though we don’t like to call ourselves that because it makes us feel old! 🙂
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
For both of us, we have really developed into people who truly value hard work. We both tend to be the DIY type and have put sweat equity into many things throughout our lives but this business has shown us (and our kids) that what you put in is what you get back!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
1000% It took us a really long time to figure out how to get a screen to turn out after exposure. There is SO much to that process, and we wasted a lot of materials in the midst of it. We were both ready to throw in the towel but Josh is the one who really pushed to keep trying. We’re so glad we didn’t stop!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Quality over quantity. Every single day! We have had a few customer requests for certain items that we knew we could technically produce, but not to a high enough standard, so we turned down the work. We will consistently double and triple check orders, even if it takes extra time.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember us as people who delivered a high quality product that they expected! We try to be as detailed as possible throughout the process, so that when an order is picked up, our customer got exactly what they ordered. We also hope that our name stays in the community as honest, hard working business owners who volunteered time and donated money as often as we were able.
