We’re looking forward to introducing you to LaTasha Mobley. Check out our conversation below.

Hi LaTasha , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now is cleaning, running errands, currently enrolled in college and taking care of my 13 year old.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi name is LaTasha Mobley. I came up with my brand looking for an creative outlet to show case my art. I am an artist turned cake artist, started as a fashion design major and ended up baking in the kitchen. What’s interesting is being able to teach myself, different skills without former training. I can say I was with my nana in the kitchen to learn how to bake as a young girl. I taught myself years later down the line the artsy part of it after I parted ways with my fashion school, that has since closed down. What I find unique is displaying art on a cake and putting love into it to taste good as well. I have been putting smiles on people faces for their different occasions. My son is my biggest inspiration, he loves to put me up for a challenge.I want to get my brand name out even more, participate in events when time permits me . I do plan on networking more at events, that’s always good for business.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
The person that taught me about work is my mom. She prepared me for my first job i landed at Comerica park. She also taught me at an early age, about entrepreneurship. I was the kid selling candy and chips in school.
I remember falling on hard times in my adult years and remembering where it all started from so I started back selling chips, cookies and water. Next thing I know she was teaching me about making gift baskets. I was taught how to generate different forms of income. Everything she taught me, I’m currently teaching my son about entrepreneurship and skills he need for work.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
The time i almost gave up, unfortunately I loss three loved ones in a tragic house fire in 2011. I was in college at the time. I received some counseling and support by the staff. After taking time off, I just knew I was ready to quit school I was under alot of stress. Almost everyday I couldn’t think straight. I had to listen to music and start working some art to try and clear my mind. I decided to go back to class to keep my mind busy. My entire department surprised me with a signed card. I was surrounded by love i will never forget thank you Norfolk state University.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that really matters to me, keeping my faith in God. I’ve been faced with so many storms and came back stronger than ever. I’m Family oriented I’ve always had a strong support system. We celebrate holidays together keeping traditions going. Treat people the way I want to be treated. Keep the love going, no room for hate.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do. I love making people happy. Even during the hardest times out here. I am happy to be apart of people special occasions. It goes beyond making a profit. It’s the gratitude you receive and recognition for being able to service a client.
