Kamyra Cheatham’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We recently had the chance to connect with Kamyra Cheatham and have shared our conversation below.

Kamyra, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something outside of work that is bringing me joy is motherhood. I’ve always enjoyed being a mom but lately it has been so fulfilling and enjoyable. My daughters are 7 and 11 years old and I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to guide them and raise them to be such respectable, determined, smart, kind, fun and beautiful young ladies. I love that my children are so receptive to my guidance and advice, they trust me to lead them correctly which makes raising them so much easier and fun. Recently I have been working with them on starting and running their first business and I could not be more proud. I have been able to teach them how to start their own small businesses from coming up with names and logos, buying their products, to creating their branding and allowing them to work on their products independently and with my help. They had the opportunity to participate in their first young entrepreneur pop up shop this summer and it was a great experience for all of us. I’m happy I was able to teach them how to generate income and they had the opportunity to see the success of all of their hard work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kamyra, I am a multi-passionate entrepreneur, mama, and digital powerhouse building multiple streams of income with purpose and soul. I’m the visionary behind Glow Up Vegan, where I guide women especially busy moms through a holistic plant-based lifestyle that nourishes their body, mind, and spirit. I’m also the creator of Everything Steamy, my womb wellness brand that empowers women to heal naturally through the ancient art of yoni steaming and herbal medicine.

In the digital world, I run Haus of Sites, a luxury web design and website maintenance studio where I bring other entrepreneurs’ visions to life with beautiful, websites. From eBooks and mini courses, I’ve made it my mission to show women what’s possible when they bet on themselves.

Balancing motherhood and multiple businesses isn’t easy, but it fuels me to keep showing up and creating impact. I’ve built my brand from the ground up by staying authentic, resilient, and rooted in my why. Everything I create is rooted in intention, empowerment, and the desire to help women glow from the inside out.

I believe that success doesn’t have to look one way I’m proof that you can be spiritual and strategic, soft and savage, grounded and getting to my success. Whether I’m in the kitchen creating vegan meals, on Canva building a new funnel, or shipping out herbal blends I do it with love, vision, and hustle.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother taught me the most about work. My whole life I have always watched my mother have drive and dedication. She worked a 9-5, and always had a side hustle to make extra income all while showing up everyday as a mother. From making gift baskets, to homemade cakes to a full blown catering business my mother showed me the importance of hard work and now she has the ability to work as a full time entrepreneur. My mother has had a lot of great accomplishments because she stayed dedicated. From catering for the Superbowl, to serving as the president of the black chamber of commerce, and so much more while constantly showing up for our community through her non profit and being a great example not only to her children and grandchildren but everyone around her. I couldn’t be more proud of my mom and I am extremely thankful to have had such a great example to look up to. I want to continue to be a great example to my kids as well and show them the importance of hard work the same that she has showed my siblings and myself.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely, When you are building a business from the ground up with little to no guidance or experience there will be plenty of times that you feel overwhelmed and want to give up. For me, I had a handful of those times. After I transitioned to a vegan lifestyle I found my passion for helping other people with their transition. I started using my platforms to educate people on the benefits of veganism and showcasing the meals I learned to make. The better I got with learning to cook vegan meals I started to offer vegan meal prep services. I went back to school, started the culinary program and continued to sell meal preps on the side while working my job. Selling meals and meal preps had its ups and downs. It was a lot of work because I didn’t have a team of people or any help at all. I was doing all of the grocery shopping, prep, cooking and delivering. I would spend 8 hours in the kitchen most days I was cooking and there were a lot of days I didn’t feel like I was getting the pay I deserved. There were a days I made decent money but there were a lot of days I wanted to make more. After a while it became very tiring and I wasn’t as motivated as I once was and not to mention working with clients wasn’t always easy. I was working, and going to school while being a mom and it was A LOT. I felt like I needed more, maybe a food truck or a small cafe but it felt almost impossible with everything I had on my plate and I still wasn’t making my goal or making enough to save for a food truck so I became pretty frustrated and discouraged and I took a step back from cooking. I had to pivot for a while which I still am. I published my first eBook in 2020 called “Cooking is my therapy” and I learned to reach my audience in a way that was less demanding and wasn’t going to leave me tired and drained by providing some of my favorite recipes and helpful tips for transitioning to a vegan lifestyle. Since I’ve taken a break from cooking I have been working on a 30 day course called “Glow up vegan” where I am helping moms transition to a vegan lifestyle in 30 days. Although I am unable to meal prep and cater like I used too I still wanted to show up for my community until I have the time to do so again. I Have plans to open a upscale vegan restaurant in the Detroit area, but until then I am offering my vegan desserts for sale and my digital products which offer help with shopping, recipes and encouragement for those wanting to change their lifestyle. Stay tuned for what’s next!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Cultural values that I protect at all costs are my family & legacy. In everything that I do my drive comes from my daughters and making sure that I always put my best foot forward so that I can teach them to be better and do better than I have. My daughters are often integrated into my ventures so they can see first hand what it is like to start and grow a business. I believe ownership and generating your own income is more important than trying to land a good job. I support their creative projects by using my entrepreneurial journey as a way to teach them independence and creativity. It is very important to me that my legacy lives on through my daughters not only financially but in the way that they carry themselves and treat others. I want to provide them with extensive knowledge on how to be not only successful but continue teach their children, family and friends around them. It is a must that they are better than me and I am doing everything in my power to make sure of that.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am at home. My home is my sanctuary. I have created a calm and peaceful environment for me to enjoy and find peace in. Sometimes everyday life can be a bit overwhelming. Being around people and their energy can be draining so when I am feeling stressed, over stimulated or out of place I know I can go home, spend time with my plants and cook a good nourishing meal that will help me get back on my square. When I’m at home I spend a lot of time meditating and finding answers. I can get into my creative space and brainstorm on things I probably wouldn’t be able to focus on if I was always out or around the wrong people. I truly love being at home with my music, my plants, my kids and my computer finding inspiration and working on my next project.
