Life & Work with David Vader of Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Vader.

Hi David, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
A Detroit native born musician and artist finally crawls from the darkest depths of a labyrinthine dungeon filled with pain, betrayal, suffering, loneliness and self destruction, decided to climb into the light and talked to a friend/mentor who later became my acting coach, and nursed me through the beginning stages of my acting career. He too had been through similar experiences. He became my personal Yoda when it came to acting. Training hard in the next year, I began to hone my natural acting abilities with proper technique and add skills to my resume, along with racking up roles and even producing, directing, and writing my own film.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Meeting the wrong people. Criticism of the mind. Typecasting. Tattoos. Signing up for roles out of desperation. Understanding the casting process.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I sing and write 50% of the music and lyrics in the band Black Lantern. I am a natural actor that blends all of the techniques that I’ve learned and uses them accordingly to how it helps add or take away from the story. I am proud of the life I’ve made for myself with the help and guidance of so many more talented and wisened people. I am most proud of my cat Osiris. Im grounded in reality and grateful for the air I breathe.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Audition by Michael Shurtleff…the actors tome. This should be necessary for every actress or actor. HWC has helped me understand the business of acting. Thus spoke zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche. Twilight of the Idols. Choke. Fight Club. American psycho.
