Hidden Gems: Meet Julie Amy of For Kids Sake Early Learning Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Amy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We opened our doors in 2005, and this September 10, we’ll celebrate 20 years of serving families with a vibrant downtown street fair-type celebration honoring our core values: making people feel important, creating belonging, building safety, fostering education, and cultivating communication.

Our programs serve children from infancy through age 12, offering nurturing, high-quality care for infants and toddlers, a values-driven preschool experience, and adventurous school-age care and summer camp programming that keeps older kids engaged, connected, and thriving.

Looking back, I always knew that early childhood education would be part of my path. As a high school student, I wrote a list of life goals that included becoming a wife, a mom, and owning a school. What I didn’t know then was that I’d become a mother of six, a stepmom to two more incredible boys, and a grandmother—twice over so far. And yes, I would go on to own more than just one school.

I come from a family of entrepreneurs, but this path chose me because it gave me the one thing I needed most: the freedom to raise my children while building a business that served other families, too. I needed to know the people around my kids loved and cared for them as I would. So I created that space—a village where children thrive, and families belong.

Twenty years later, I’m proud and humbled to say that more than half of our team has been with us for over a decade. The relationships built here—between staff, parents, and children—are truly indescribable. What started as a dream has become a legacy of love, trust, and transformation for families across our community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not necessarily.

Over 20 years, we’ve seen our fair share of ups and downs—because when you build something that matters, you’re going to weather some storms. We’ve lived through economic crashes, a global pandemic, the challenges of changing locations, and even the heartbreak of child tragedy. Each one shaped us.

But what I’ve learned is this: when your foundation is love, family, and purpose, you don’t just survive. You grow. You adapt. You recommit.

We became stronger because we knew what we stood for. We doubled down on taking care of each other. We became even more determined to be a haven for families when the world felt uncertain. And through it all, our families and staff showed up—not just for us, but for each other.

As you know, we’re big fans of For Kids Sake Early Learning Center. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
For Kids’ Sake provides high-quality care and education for children from birth through age 12, with a specialized infant-toddler center dedicated to our youngest learners. We create nurturing, relationship-based environments where children feel safe, seen, and valued—starting from the very beginning.

We’re known for compassionate care, low child-to-teacher ratios, and deep, lasting family partnerships. What sets us apart is our commitment to community: our families don’t just drop off and pick up. They build friendships, share meals, go camping together, and support each other far beyond our walls.

More than half our staff have been with us for over a decade. That consistency builds trust and helps us deliver what we’re most proud of—safe, loving, high-quality care where every day feels like the best day ever.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite reflections is when I see preschool parents—who met through our center—recognize each other in the grocery store, plan outings, plan play dates, or plan trips together with their kids. What started as drop-off hellos turned into shared dinners, playground visits, friendship, and a village that extended far beyond our doors. Seeing families become each other’s support system reminds me that the connections made at school are not just childcare, but community.
