Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikita Petrovskiy.
Hi Nikita, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a painter my whole life and an avid supporter of the art community. I discovered that the world of fragrance is just as thought provoking and uniting as physical artwork, and started a brand to express this passion. We recently opened a storefront at Partridge Creek Mall after selling online for 1.5 years.
I began handcrafting perfume simply out of curiosity which resulted in my first ever work, KATANA. After some positive feedback from family and friends, I decided to continue expanding and creating my line, and ended up with eleven releases as of today. It has been amazing to see a concept that I created on my phone in the car turn into the interactive personal experience it is today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many challenges especially getting noticed in a highly competitive space, but the community support has been incredible and we have successfully created a line that is unique from anything else.
One of the first things I did when starting out was sample anything and everything I could to see what people are already experiencing. I took this knowledge and intentionally created fragrances that I knew would be completely different from the larger brands, even if they were polarizing at first. As a matter of fact, ROMEO & JULIET won two awards in 2024, but continues to be one of our “love it or hate it” fragrances, which always generates strong feelings and discussion.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Aside from perfumery, I specialize in abstract multimedia artwork, especially acrylic and black/white works.
I recently began customizing clothing and accessories as well which has broadened my horizons. Because of this, Bold Label is actually the only brand in the United States that specializes in fragrances, fashion, and artwork together. To me, all three of these disciplines are part of the same family and are just different ways of expressing the same ideas.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Any and every venture will test your love for that particular craft. It has to mean everything to you because you will need to give it everything to bring it to life.
Starting out, you will see that there is almost never one right or wrong way to do anything. It will be up to you to perfect the best way for you, and this is achieved through a huge amount of experimentation. This can be overwhelming but also incredibly liberating, because you are entirely in charge of your idea and concept.
