Daily Inspiration: Meet Extension Cord

Today we’d like to introduce you to Extension Cord.

Hi Extension, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Extension Cord first started in the winter of 2021. Gearing up for their high school talent show, four kids, Carter Sibson, Reece Pickard, Michael Wozny and Darren Patterson joined together after school to learn a song. For a few weeks, they worked on Down On The Corner by Creedence Clearwater Revival. After their first performance on a stage, keyboard player and close friend Isaac Bowne joined the band. They would spend the rest of their high school years in the basement picking up more songs. In December of 2023, the band released their first self-titled studio album. By the time they had started college, lead singer Maxim Chalupa from Spring Lake, Michigan joined the group. Extension Cord began playing around West Michigan in April of 2024, kicking off a full year of live performances. Traveling from Muskegon to Holton, Twin Lake, Whitehall, Mount Pleasant and Holland bringing a long list of Rock and Roll cover tunes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During high school, it was hard for the boys to get together. School, sports, and extracurriculars took up lots of their time. Founding member Darren Patterson was preparing to play soccer for the local community college. This decision to walk away from the band left Carter Sibson as the only guitar player. In the early days, Isaac Bowne’s older brother Noah had joined to be Extension Cord’s lead singer. After a short stint and one performance on stage, Noah decided the band was not the right outfit for him, leaving the group without a lead singer.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Extension Cord covers Rock and Roll music spanning the 1960s to present day. When playing live, the band often tosses a few of their original songs into their set lists. Their most popular songs from their debut album include Can You Tell Me, Hypocrite and Coffee’s Gone Cold. In their hometown, Extension Cord is known for their energetic performances, owning every stage they step foot on.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Sticking to the grind amidst adversity has been the biggest lesson learned within the group. For a long time, it was hard for the group to find one day in a month to practice together. When members had left the group, the remaining players had to make do learning to perform songs with limited instruments. Learning to play to the audience and bring energy while on stage was key to earning more gigs. Even in a bar with 6 people, Extension Cord always makes sure to put on the best show they can.
