Today we’d like to introduce you to Quinn Counseller.
Hi Quinn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m an occupational therapist and the founder of Neuroplastic Rehab, a practice dedicated to evidence-based neurorehabilitation. My journey began at Michigan State, and I went on to earn my Doctorate in Occupational Therapy and Master of Business with a concentration in Healthcare Management from the University of Michigan. After completing clinicals at The Recovery Project and University of Michigan Hospital, and conducting research with the Michigan Parkinson Foundation, I knew I wanted to focus my career on neurological recovery.
It was actually through my work with the Parkinson’s community—teaching PWR! Moves classes and presenting on neuroplasticity—that I began receiving more and more requests for in-home, brain-centered OT. After my tenth call in a year, I decided to start my own practice. I asked that client to give me one month to set things up—and they’ve been with me ever since. That was in late 2023.
Today, Neuroplastic Rehab serves adults and older adults with neurological conditions such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord injury (SCI), Parkinson’s disease (PD), stroke, and other neurological disorders. We accept Auto No-Fault Insurance from people who have been in a motor vehicle accident and experienced an injury, and we also accept private pay for those who don’t want to deal with insurance or want extra therapy on top of what insurance allows for. My passion is using evidence-based principles for motor relearning—integrating neuroplasticity and cognition into each session—because the brain and body work together, and we need to treat them that way. Above all, I aim to offer clients hope that they can recover and live with a higher quality of life than they’re currently experiencing after injury.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been an amazing journey, and I feel truly fortunate to have met so many incredible mentors and people in this field. I’m especially grateful for the clients I work with every day—being a part of their recovery is a privilege.
That said, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. While I now have one full-time 1099 therapist and a part-time visual media designer on my team, I still manage nearly everything else myself—from backend operations like billing, marketing, and intake calls, to documentation systems, insurance follow-ups, website design, and networking. Managing all of this helps keep overhead low, but it also makes work-life balance a real challenge.
Right now, I’m embracing this season of growth. At 29, I have the grit and energy to work hard and put in long hours. But I’m also aware that for long-term sustainability—and to prevent burnout—I’ll need to grow the team and delegate more.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Neuroplastic Rehab is a mobile occupational therapy practice that specializes in neurorehabilitation for adults and older adults with conditions such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord injury (SCI), Parkinson’s disease (PD), stroke, and other neurological disorders. We bring therapy directly to clients in their homes, where recovery is often most meaningful and effective.
What sets us apart is our deep commitment to the science of neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to rewire and heal. Our sessions integrate evidence-based principles for both motor and cognitive retraining, because the brain and body must work together for real progress to happen. We believe in high-intensity training, elevating the heart rate up to 80% of max capacity during exercise to maximize neurotransmitter release, muscle activation, and long-term brain change. We’re not just focused on routines—we’re focused on results, whether that means muscle burnouts, setting new personal records, or breaking through mental barriers after injury.
We also emphasize real-world engagement—getting clients back out into the community, re-engaging with life, and safely working toward activities they may not have attempted since their initial diagnosis or accident. There’s something incredibly empowering about returning to something you love, like golf or hiking, even if we have to creatively adapt the task to ensure safety.
In addition to occupational therapy, we offer comprehensive vocational therapy services. This includes everything from completing interest surveys and conducting detailed job analyses to job site searches, resume and LinkedIn building, job applications, interview preparation, and advocating for clients when it comes to hours, accommodations, or salary discussions. We also provide on-the-job training and ongoing support. Some clients may only need us during their initial transition, while others—especially those with high fall risk or cognitive impairments—may need our support throughout each shift. We tailor the approach to fit each individual’s needs and goals.
We’re known for our client-centered, high-impact approach. Therapy is always one-on-one. We don’t believe in the myth that progress stops after a few months. We believe in creating long-term, meaningful change—helping people not just recover, but thrive.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Neuroplastic Rehab represents possibility. Whether someone is rebuilding after an accident or learning to live fully with a neurological condition, we meet them with expertise, compassion, and the tools to move forward—stronger, braver, and more hopeful than before.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I think of my childhood, it’s not just one specific memory that stands out—it’s more of a feeling. I remember my backyard as the heart of it all. Running around barefoot with my sisters and the neighborhood kids, finding bugs under rocks, catching frogs in the creek behind the field, jumping in the pool and shoving each other off the raft to be “king of the raft,” picking strawberries out of the garden. In the winter, we’d tie a sled to the snowmobile and take turns getting pulled through the field, laughing the whole way. I feel very blessed to have grown up in such a fun, loving, and safe environment—one where I could just be a kid and didn’t have to grow up too fast.
