Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Elijah.
Hi Ella, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started photography when I was 14 years old. My parents gave me a camera (a very small compact one) because I was always borrowing my father’s. At the time, I used to photograph my friends and also took a few self-portraits. Very quickly, the passion was born, and I spent all my free time photographing everything I saw. I experimented with portraiture, macro photography, landscape photography, and more.
Then I began pursuing photography more seriously in 2012. For a long time, I focused on outdoor photography before starting studio work in 2019, in my apartment in Rennes. Being in love with classical paintings, I aimed to bring a painterly quality to my images – and that’s how my artistic universe was born.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Easy is not the word. Let’s say that in photography, you really have to stand out to succeed, in my opinion. And when you’re self-employed, you know that nothing is guaranteed. Before going full-time, I worked alongside my photography business at a school with children with disabilities.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional photographer specializing in fine art and maternity photography (babies and expectant mothers). I believe what sets me apart from others is my artistic style, which I’ve worked on extensively to make truly unique.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a very introverted person and lacked self-confidence. Photography really helped me with that too.
