Conversations with Marisa Delgado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Delgado.

Hi Marisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a child, my sister and I would record what I like to think of as an early version of a podcast — capturing our voices and everyday adventures on tape. When my dad bought one of those big, bulky camcorders, my imagination took off. We created fake cooking shows and even short stories with real storylines.

But what truly captured my heart was photography. Whether traveling with school or hanging out with friends, I was always the one taking pictures — photos that, once developed, earned me constant compliments. At the time, it was mostly family praising them, so I didn’t think much of it.

As I grew older, my friends would rely on me to document our nights out, knowing I had an eye for the best angles and the most authentic, lively shots. Eventually, I decided to invest in myself, made a few big purchases, and launched my photography business — determined to make a name for myself.

I gravitate toward candid photos because they hold so much power. When someone looks back at a candid image, they’re instantly transported to that moment — remembering exactly what they were thinking or feeling.

One of my favorite parts of this journey is meeting so many beautiful people. The stories I could share from my experiences behind the camera could fill a book — stories of kindness, compassion, and genuine souls found in the most unexpected places. Many of my clients even become close friends.

I especially love working with teenage girls during their Quinceañera (a traditional 15th birthday celebration in Mexican culture). Many arrive at the shoot nervous and unsure, but by the time we finish, we’re laughing, joking, and celebrating their unique beauty. Having struggled with self-esteem myself as a teenager, I understand how powerful it is for young people to feel confident and valued. I’m there to remind them it’s okay to shine and be proud of who they are.

My brain works a bit like a screenwriter’s — because I believe everyone has a story worth telling. If I can help someone share that story through my lens, then I know I’ve done my job right.

With a deep love for storytelling through images, I aim to capture more than just a moment—I capture the feeling behind it. Every photo I take is a piece of someone’s story, preserved to be remembered, cherished, and passed on. Photography isn’t just what I do—it’s how I honor the beauty in real, everyday emotion.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve always had the eye for photography and even videography. The struggles came in with the business aspect of it. I’ll be honest I didn’t know what to charge and felt bad charging. Was never really someone who wanted to be an entrepreneur maybe because I didn’t feel confident enough. For a business like mine to thrive I knew I had to be 100% confident in my work make a business plan and get as much advice and do as much research as possible. Asking other photographers for advice at first, proved to be difficult as the ones I met initially were unwilling to help. I guess you can call it gatekeeping. That’s just not how I operate. I feel like in business there’s enough success out here for us all. We can all win together. My best friend is an event planner a very successful one who formed what we call Envy’s dream team. A group of entrepreneurs from all walks of life and different professions. We support each other and promote each other. We are each other safe space of small business owners that only want to uplift and help each other. We share our challenges and successes. We’ve become like a family.

Eventually I found a few like minded photographers who shared a lot of knowledge with me and I with them.

In the end life is all about helping each other ..

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a professional photographer who captures the mind body and soul of the moment. I Specialize in making connections with my clients so that in our sessions their full authentic selves are free to shine. I’m known for having “the eye”. People say anyone could be holding that same camera standing in the same spot but what I capture is something for the people to connect with. I’m proud that I’ve pushed myself to make so many visions a reality for myself and others through my lense. I’m proud that I don’t seek my clients they seek me and when in a shoot with them we all feel like this is exactly where we should be in that moment.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most is the connections I make with brilliant people along the way. Everyone has a story I just love to be a part of them telling theirs and loving their authentic selves
