Rising Stars: Meet Whitney Stallworth of Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Stallworth.

Whitney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Fashion has always been a part of who I am! I started young—one of my very first creations was a purse made out of capri suns back in middle school. I was constantly crafting, sewing, and turning everyday items into something stylish. While most teens were planning sweet sixteens, I planned and hosted an entire fashion show at 16 to showcase my designs! From there, my work started being featured in fashion shows all over the city, and I knew this was my lane.

After college, I hit a bit of a creative pause and drifted from fashion for a while. But when I moved back home to Detroit two years ago, everything changed. That move reignited my passion and gave me the space to fully relaunch my creative dreams. Today, I run WhitneyWoreIt, my fashion consulting and content brand; JC Consulting, where I support other creatives and entrepreneurs; and CraftBoxDetroit, a creative workshop series designed to help people of all ages explore their artistic side and prepare portfolios

Coming back to Detroit gave me the spark I didn’t know I needed—and now I’m walking fully in my purpose, and loving every moment.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all—it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I once heard a quote that stuck with me: “Nothing worth it comes easy.” That simple truth always brings me back to James 1:12, which reminds us that there’s a blessing on the other side of perseverance. This passion of mine is so worth it—but I’ve never expected it to come easy.

In fact, I stepped away from it for years because it was hard. I faced doubt, fear, financial pressure, and moments where I questioned if I had what it takes. But over time, I’ve come to realize that the bumps in the road aren’t setbacks—they’re setups. Sometimes the detours are exactly what God uses to get you on the right path and help you appreciate the journey even more.

I’ve heard a lot of “no’s” and “not yet’s,” but I’ve also watched God open doors that no one else could. That’s what keeps me going. I’ve learned to embrace the process, even when it’s uncomfortable, because I know that I’m walking in purpose. And for that reason, I’ll continue to show up, stay rooted in faith, and persevere—no matter how tough the road gets.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I wear a few creative hats—but at the core of it all, I’m a fashion consultant, content creator, and creative workshop curator. Through my brand WhitneyWoreIt, I help everyday people discover and elevate their personal style in ways that feel authentic and empowering. Whether it’s wardrobe edits, photoshoot styling, or digital content, I’m passionate about helping others feel confident and seen.

I’ve launched CraftBoxDetroit, a hands-on creative workshop series that brings people together to explore fashion, design, and DIY artistry. It’s a space to learn, connect, and create—something I believe is deeply needed in our community preparing others for success in creative fields.

What I’m most proud of is the way I’ve been able to bounce back and rebuild. After stepping away from my creative path for a few years, going through a few personal hardships – returning to Detroit reignited my vision. I’ve worked hard to build platforms that are not just stylish, but meaningful.

What sets me apart is my heart behind the work. I don’t just do this for the aesthetic—I do it to help people connect to themselves and their purpose. My style is intentional, my approach is personal, and my faith is the foundation of it all. I’m not just here to make things look good—I’m here to help people feel good while chasing their God-given creativity.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories has to be my high school graduation open house. My parents turned it into an art show, featuring all of the creative work I had made throughout my high school journey—fashion sketches, handmade accessories, DIY projects, and more. It was such a special moment.

The room was filled with all my favorite people—family, friends, mentors—and you could just feel the love in that moment. My parents went all out to highlight who I was as an artist and celebrate my creativity in such a unique, intentional way. Seeing everything I had created displayed like a gallery and sharing it with my family and peers was a monumental moment for me.

That day reminded me of how deeply supported I’ve always been and how important it is to embrace and share your gifts. I’ll never forget it. It’s the same feelings I have now being back in Detroit on this journey again.
