Today we’d like to introduce you to Shea Prisk.
Hi Shea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My wife (Andrea) and I started Thread Creek Coffee in 2022 with the hope of bringing even more awareness to human-trafficking, and hopefully, to rescue real women and girls from these horrors. Initially it was just a sort of thought that popped into my head, “what if we started a coffee shop and just gave away all of the profits.” It turned into a reality as several people donated to help it get off the ground, and most notably, a good friend of mine started his own roasting company and offered to lend his expertise free of charge. Our church and our family have been supportive of Our Daughters International (the organization we give all of our profits to) for years, but I have had this increased burden to help even more. So the thought of the coffee shop was born, and here we are today with a shop that is doing exceedingly well and, on average, rescuing 20 women and girls each month.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was very hard at first. I could not have went into this more “green.” I very much had the mentality that “if we build it, they will come,” and I grossly underestimated how long it would take for us to be profitable. It ended up taking 5 months for us to be profitable, and those losses were solely covered by my wife and I. This put an incredible amount of stress on me personally, and candidly, I felt like a failure. Obviously we fast forward to present day, and things are going incredibly well. We have a strong, loyal customer base and new faces show up every day. We are blessed, God has been incredibly kind to us.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Thread Creek Coffee is a craft coffee shop located in Hartland, MI. We give away 100% of our profits to the fight against human-trafficking. We have a single shop, in addition to a strong wholesale side of the business as well. We don’t ask our customers to sacrifice quality in the name of our cause. In fact, you will get a better product at Thread Creek, while supporting an incredible cause.
Obviously ownership of this shop doesn’t pay me a thing, so my day job is the pastor of Grumlaw Church, with locations in Grand Blanc and Hartland.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
In short, if your’e in the area, stop getting your coffee at Starbucks:)
Support not only local, but you’ll also be getting behind an incredible cause where real women and girls are being impacted. You can also order our coffee online at threadcreek.com
