My Professional and Personal Story
I’m a 57-year-old Ohio native, a transplanted Buckeye now at home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. My career spans 20 years in financial services, including 15 years as a Vice President and Senior Business Relationship Manager at JPMorgan Chase, where I worked until September 2024. At Chase, I supported business clients with lending and growth strategies, building skills in financial management and client relationships. Before that, I ran a home improvement company distributing lifestyle products and managed investment real estate, experiences that taught me how to run a business. These roles prepared me to open beem® Light Sauna at Knapp’s Crossing with my wife, Jennifer.
On a personal note, I’ve been married to Jennifer, my childhood sweetheart, for 35 years as of 2025. We have four grown, married children and eight grandchildren who call me “Coach.” Family is our foundation, and I enjoy mountain biking on West Michigan’s trails, golfing, listening to podcasts, and reading. A few years ago, I faced some health challenges that led me to explore holistic health options, especially as interest in natural remedies grew in the post-COVID era. This shift toward wellness, combined with my love of learning, inspired me to bring beem® Light Sauna to our community.
Connection to West Michigan
Six years ago, Jennifer and I moved from Ohio to Grand Rapids to be closer to her parents and siblings, following our children who had settled here first. We’ve fallen in love with West Michigan’s warm, health-conscious community, which feels like the perfect place for beem® Light Sauna at Knapp’s Crossing. This region’s focus on well-being and connection motivates us to offer a space where locals can care for themselves.
Discovering beem® Light Sauna
My path to beem® Light Sauna started during a National SBA call while at Chase, when wellness franchises were discussed. The idea caught my attention, especially as I was researching holistic health solutions to support my own wellness journey. I discovered beem’s focus on infrared sauna and red light therapy, and my first 40-minute session—with infrared heat, chromotherapy, and amenities like iPads—was incredibly refreshing. The holistic benefits felt like exactly what I’d been seeking, offering a natural way to support health.
Jennifer and I saw beem’s potential to make a difference in Grand Rapids. The franchise’s support—through marketing, real estate, and training via beem® University—aligned with our skills. My business experience and Jennifer’s shared passion for helping others gave us the confidence to open the Knapp’s Crossing location, a high-visibility spot where we could serve our community together.

These benefits resonate with me personally, having turned to holistic remedies for my own health. With our eight grandchildren cheering us on, Jennifer and I are excited to grow beem® Light Sauna at Knapp’s Crossing. We’re committed to making it a cornerstone of wellness in Grand Rapids, helping our neighbors find balance and strength through holistic solutions, just as we have.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No struggle, no tangible victory. The challenges have been varied. This is the first time to build an employee base. Challenges with scheduling was an early issue, but the learning curve was pretty steep. We work very had to allow for flexibility for our beem Team which comes with challenges, but we want to provide that for our team.
When we opened, we knew Red Light Therapy would be popular, but we did not anticipate how popular. We were the first in the franchise to add a standing Red Light to our Sauna suites. This has proven to be very popular and many locations have followed our lead with this strategy.
Our summer season in west Michigan is pretty short and we are now working through other seasonal activities taking priority over make the quick stop at our location for their light therapy. We are working on creating material that better informs them that consistency matters and both light therapies are important year round!
