Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Galea.
Hi Amy , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had a thing for photography. Growing up, I was the person who always had a camera in hand, snapping pictures whenever I had the chance. About 15 years ago, my husband surprised me with my first DSLR, and that’s when I started my adventure into opening my own business. I was eager to learn and grow, so I signed up for an online photography class and just started shooting — anything and everything I could. My children being my earliest “models” although they quickly became tired of me!
In the beginning, I offered free shoots to family and friends to build my experience and gain confidence. Those early sessions taught me so much about lighting, composition, and connecting with people through my work. As I started to feel more comfortable, and saw how happy people were with the photos I captured, I realized I was ready to take the next step and officially launch my photography business.
Since then, my business has grown steadily every year, and I feel so grateful to do what I love every day. Photography has given me the opportunity to meet so many wonderful clients, take on exciting creative challenges, and constantly push myself to learn and evolve. Capturing meaningful moments for others and turning them into lasting memories is truly the most rewarding part of this journey. I recently opened a small studio space-which has always been a dream of mine! Being able to control the environment and create a space for each client is a true game changer!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My photography journey has been as much about building confidence as it has been about honing my craft. Along the way, I’ve often found myself comparing my work to others — photography is such a beautiful art, and there are so many talented, inspiring people in this industry. It’s easy to fall into the mindset of wondering if you’re good enough or if your work stands out. But over time, the support of returning clients has been a huge source of encouragement for me. Their thoughtful words, kind reviews, and continued trust have reminded me that what I create matters and that I have something unique to offer. Their belief in me has helped strengthen my own belief in myself, and that has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My photography business specializes in capturing the joy and personality of high school seniors and families, With a light, bright, and true to color style, I aim to create timeless images that clients can keep in their homes, no matter the trends or changes in their space. We all know that time goes by way too fast, and I love being a part of helping freeze time through a photograph. What I am most proud of is the connection I build with each client. During each session I focus on capturing both the posed and candid moments, talking my clients through the process and helping them feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. It’s an incredible feeling to see them open up, relax, and leave the session with not just beautiful photos, but a fun memorable experience.
I especially love hanging with my high school seniors. It’s been many years, but I remember my senior year and how exciting it was! I love capturing the fun, excitement, and special moments that make senior year such an unforgettable time. I encourage them to bring anything that represents them. It makes them feel comfortable if they are in a space with the things that matter most to them. Again, this is where I make sure I have a connection with my clients. We all know what its like to be that age, and its very important to me that they feel confident in me that I will bring out the best in them.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most is making sure my clients feel completely comfortable with me. I want every person who steps in front of my camera to feel like they have a friend there, not just someone they hired for a job. Building that sense of trust and connection is so important because it helps bring out genuine smiles, real laughter, and authentic moments. When my clients feel relaxed and seen, the experience becomes more than just taking pictures — it becomes a fun, meaningful memory we create together. I have met so many wonderful people over the years. Some, I am happy to say- have become great friends!
