Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Adams.
Hi Evan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been immersed in art for as long as I can remember. I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, into a creative family — my dad a watercolorist, my mom a ceramicist — so making things with my hands was second nature. I got my first film camera at 12 and instantly fell in love with the process: learning how film works, understanding light, and going out into the world to capture how I saw it. That spark never left. Over time, my passion expanded into other mediums like graphic design, screen printing, and painting, eventually earning my BFA in Film from the Art Institute of Los Angeles. After interning with Nike, I made my way to Maui, Hawaii, where I’ve built a life around creativity. I now run my studios, EVVY Designs and Exclusive 35 Hawaii, blending traditional craft with personal storytelling — but film photography remains at the heart of everything I do.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I live with muscular dystrophy, a condition that causes progressive muscle deterioration, which has forced me to constantly adapt how I move through life and how I create. There are things I can no longer do the way I used to, and that’s been challenging both physically and emotionally. But I hold onto those memories with gratitude, and I stay focused on what I can do. My passion for storytelling, especially through film photography, keeps me grounded and moving forward. I’ve learned to embrace change, stay positive, and pour everything I have into my art — and that makes me happy.

I’m a film photographer and multidisciplinary artist specializing in analog photography, graphic design, screen printing, and painting. I’m best known for my film work — capturing fashion, lifestyle, and personal moments with a soulful, cinematic approach that feels both raw and intentional. What sets me apart is my commitment to shooting exclusively on film, embracing the imperfections and process as part of the storytelling. My background in multiple creative disciplines allows me to bring a unique visual language to every project, whether I’m working with brands, individuals, or creating personal work. I’m most proud of building a life around creativity despite the challenges I’ve faced — staying true to my vision and continuing to evolve while honoring the craft.
