Meet Omar Galvan of BrickHouse Ink

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Galvan.

Hi Omar, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been around art my whole life. My dad is an artist , dedicates himself to airbrush art. So naturally I gravitated in his footsteps growing up drawing and airbrushing. Ive always been fascinated by tattoos, never thought I’d actually be tattooing but one day curiosity hit me and I figured I’d try it , my dad bought me my first machine , it was a small low quality tattoo kit off amazon , I watched hours of YouTube videos trying to figure out how to use the machine and how to tattoo. I did my first tattoo at 3 am on my cousin one day , I then realized I could do this ! So I continued to tattoo cousins and friends , just super small tattoos, I began to post pictures of my tattoos on Facebook and through mutual friends an owner of a shop messaged me and told me I had potential and if I wanted to join the crew, at the moment I was working at a factory painting delivery trucks. When I met with the owner of the shop and discussed terms , my wife and I talked it over and she told me ” if you think you can make it happen, then do it ” , I woke up the next morning called my job and told them I would no longer be going in to work. I then dedicated all my time to learning the art of tattooing, started at the shop January 16th 2020 (Covid Year) we ended up getting shut down in March of that year due to Covid-19. During that time I stayed determined continued learning and tattooing friends and family, when we got back to work around June I worked 6-7 days a week for the next couple years , I joined couple other crews on my journey of building and furthering my career before I opened BrickHouse Ink December 1st 2023 joined by my wife Nathalie Galvan and artists Malik Jamison and Emma Bushouse.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The shop I started at is where I met Malik Jamison and Emma Bushouse , we unfortunately had a fall out with that shop and had to leave that shop and joined another team , in pursuit of building our careers we’ve worked with couple different shops , huge shoutout to formally known as Hot Rodders Ink and owner Ruth for opening her doors to us and helping us out !

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Here at BrickHouse Ink each artist specializes in their own styles, I personally dedicate myself to black and grey realism and also color work, Malik is our smooth black and grey artist , and Emma dedicates her self to fine line and stippling , but we all do small dainty tattoos to large scale tattoos like full sleeves or full back pieces , as a crew we are very versatile and can do many different styles. Our mission at BrickHouse Ink is to create long-lasting memories with our clients through tattoo art. Our shop is staffed by a group of skilled tattoo artists who are passionate about transforming your ideas into a stunning piece of art. We are committed to providing our clients with the highest level of professionalism and safety, while also fostering a welcoming and comfortable environment for everyone who walks through the door.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Right before I started this tattoo journey , life was tough financially and I had gotten a factory job that helped me build sustainable income and get out of the hole I was in, through that time I had been posting small tattoos I was doing from home and through mutual friends I was contacted by a shop owner. So 2 months later from starting the factory job I came across a this opportunity to join the tattoo shop and knowing that this could put me back in a tough financial situation for my wife and I she backed me up and supported my decision to start tattooing so I called my job and quit. This was probably the most riskiest thing I’ve ever done but was never scared of failure so I put everything I had into it. I’m aware not everyone can just wake up one morning and quit there job in hopes that a hobby will take off and create a good living for you and your family, entrepreneurship isn’t for everybody , and taking this type of risk could be the most scariest thing anybody could do , but sometimes you can’t help but wonder, what if , what if it does work out and that’s why I took the risk because I know what I’m capable of if I put 100% into something , even though there is always that slight chance it doesn’t work out risk taking has always pushed me to achieve everything I want to accomplish.
