Conversations with Desireé Hensley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desireé Hensley.

Hi Desireé , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began creating ( Day In The Life) videos on YouTube as a way to get through postpartum depression after my 2nd baby girl. I thought if I could film myself in a real day then it would force me to get up and actually try to beat depression. My goal was to not only beat postpartum depression but to also show other moms they can beat it to! I then began creating fun content with my husband on tiktok in 2021 and from there our lives have change tremendously. We began creating short comical videos that resonate with real people and real problems in the world, with a twist of humor. The realness we show and the transparency is what connects us most to our community. Being who we want to be for the world to see and doing it unapologetically is what got us this far.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a beautiful journey but it has definitely not be smooth. I am always having to make sure that no matter what I do I am influencing someone and with that, that means that I am putting my life out there for the world to see and that is very scary and gives me quite a bit of anxiety. People often thing influencing is a walk in the park, but there is more work that goes into it. Filming, research, reaching out to brands, trying to film on days where my family is in the mood to film, filming on days where I don’t want to film. It’s a full time job on top of being a stay at home mom, homemaker, and homeschool teacher to my daughters. Juggling it all can be a bit hectic but I wouldn’t choose a different life if it means that I can show other moms out there that they can follow their dreams and also be a mom! Working with high end brands and always trying to stay ahead of trends can also be a little tough because it puts a lot of pressure on myself. I always want to show up organically myself and sometimes my anxiety gets the best of me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am most known for my funny, raw, day in the life videos with my family. I am bold, comical, real, and I often switch up my voices in each video and our followers love it! I like to think that I am a jack of all trades. I don’t just create 1 kind of content, I create whatever God puts on my heart, and whatever kind of day I am having. Mostly Day In The Life videos but often I make funny marriage content with my husband, Fun family content with the kids included, makeup videos where I am having a heart to heart moment filled with realness and transparency. Controversial videos where I am speaking my mind and getting things off my chest about life, mental health, and motherhood that I feel need to be talked about. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t chase the trends, I don’t do what everyone else does, I create my own lane, I create from real life personal experiences and I am very truthful, open, and transparent with everything I post. Many people do it for money, which is great bonus, but I am lead by God, I am lead by passion to help other women out there with mental health, motherhood, and marriage. I know I can’t help the entire world but if one of my videos can land on just 1 woman’s / mothers FYP page then that is all I could ever ask for.

How do you define success?
Success for me is the joy I feel at the end of the day when I have completed everything I needed to complete. If I can film and post then I have succeeded. If I can get at least one person to comment that I have made their day, that they love our content, that we have made a difference in their life, then I have succeeded. Seeing my content make a small change in the world is a great success for me! Success is watching everything that I once sowed during a storm become something beautiful and bright in the future. Success is seeing things that I once prayed for come to full fruition.
