Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Lucas.
Hi Lynn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My husband I and started offering mobile wedding planning, DJ, florals and decor services approximately 25 years ago. We have won several awards through Wedding Wire and The Knot – and are in The Knot Hall of Fame. A few years ago, we realized we really wanted more access to creating an amazing experience for our clients, and the best way to achieve that was to get our own event venue. In 2024, we created Copper Moon – a beautiful industrial space that incorporates many important service details for free. These service details include setting up and breaking down the Clients’ items for them, and even allowing them to pick them up the next morning. We also include free day of coordination, event planning, photo booth, and audio guestbook. We are blessed to serve not just couples, but also corporations, nonprofits, and individuals.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. When we began, the notion of a wedding planner was something that was only seen on TV or with very high-end weddings. We had to constantly educate couples about why a wedding planner was even needed. Nowadays, it is a much more identifiable role with weddings. And of course, the pandemic was a truly scary time for everyone in the event industry. We were fortunate enough to be able to pivot and find a way through so that we came out even stronger when the pandemic ended.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in creating unique events that are customized to the client(s). Over 25 years, we have done a large variety of events, and our decor warehouse includes some truly unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. We have executed a wide range of visions: Geek Chic (including Dr. Who Tardis centerpieces); an 8′ x 24′ chalkboard wall for a museum wedding; a Honeydukes dessert display with floating cupcakes; a custom Steampunk wedding photo shoot; and more. We pride ourselves on being able to look past the expected to find unexpected and creative solutions to design and logistics. When clients choose to host their event at Copper Moon, they are not just picking a venue – they are choosing a highly experienced team who offer a level of service not typically seen in many venues.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband and business partner is the soul of the company. Without his creativity, drive and passion, none of this would have ever happened. And of course, we have had support from many wonderful family members throughout the years. Lately, I would say one major source of support has been the other businesses in the OTCA – the Old Town Commercial Association. We are so lucky to have created our home base in a community filled with so many supportive neighbors. The OTCA has provided marketing and community opportunities for all of us – really working to ensure that we all thrive.
