Daily Inspiration: Meet Jodi And Bryan Patton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi And Bryan Patton.

Hi Jodi and Bryan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story goes back pretty far. Jodi started out working in a photo lab when she was younger, and that’s really where her love for photography began. A friend who was a wedding photographer asked her to help out, and she ended up shooting weddings here and there over the years. She kept coming back to it because she genuinely loved the energy, the connection with people, and being a part of such a meaningful day.

Bryan’s love for photography started when his mom gave him his first camera. That was back in the film days. He got hooked and just kept experimenting over the years, learning the ins and outs of photography. It wasn’t just a hobby, it became a part of who he was.

When we met, we realized we had that same passion. We started photographing weddings together about three years ago, and that’s when we decided to build a business around it. Jodi’s great with people. She keeps the day flowing, helps brides feel calm and taken care of, and really connects with them. Bryan brings a strong technical eye and loves the creative challenge of making beautiful images, no matter what’s happening around us.

We do this because we genuinely love it. Being part of a couple’s wedding day, watching two families come together, capturing those real, emotional moments. It means a lot to us. And with six kids of our own, we know how to handle chaos with a sense of humor and grace. This is more than a job for us. It’s our passion.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The photography and weddings come naturally to us. It’s what we love and what we’re good at. But running a business is a whole different beast. There’s so much behind the scenes work that most people don’t see. Marketing, client communication, editing, managing finances, keeping the calendar straight, and handling inquiries all add up to non-stop work. You can be great at taking photos, but if you can’t keep the business side running, things fall apart fast.

On top of that, we’ve got six kids. Juggling family life with wedding season, editing deadlines, meetings, and just trying to stay organized is a constant balancing act. There’s never really a clean division between work and home life. We’ve had to figure out how to support each other, pick up the slack when needed, and still show up 100% for our clients. It’s been hard at times, but it’s also made us stronger and more intentional about how we work.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We photograph and video weddings, but it’s so much more than just taking pictures. We’re there for one of the biggest moments in someone’s life, and we don’t take that lightly. We focus on capturing real moments. Those emotional, blink and you miss it kind of moments that people end up treasuring most. Of course we get the big stuff, but it’s also the way a dad looks at his daughter right before she walks down the aisle, or the laugh a couple shares when no one’s looking. That’s the kind of stuff we look for.

What we’re most proud of is hearing from couples and their families after the wedding. When someone tells us they cried looking at their gallery, or that the photos helped them remember things they didn’t even realize they forgot. That means everything. We know these aren’t just pictures. These are the images that’ll be around decades from now, long after the cake is gone and the dress is packed away.

What makes us different is that we really care about the people we work with. We’re not just clocking in and out. We’re all in. We get to know our couples, we pay attention, and we show up ready to capture it all.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
We’re always looking for ways to improve and stay ahead, so we do a lot of research. YouTube has probably been one of our biggest tools. Whether it’s learning new techniques, seeing how other photographers handle different situations, or diving deep into gear reviews, we spend a lot of time there learning and testing things out for ourselves.

We also use an app called PhotoPills, which helps us track sunrise and sunset times at specific locations. That’s been a game changer when we’re planning out portraits or trying to catch the best light of the day. We don’t like leaving things to chance, so having tools like that helps us show up fully prepared.

A big part of our process is being curious. Sometimes that means digging into social media to get a feel for a venue or spending hours testing out new equipment. We take our work seriously and want to make sure we’re always pushing to deliver the best we can.
