Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Baker.
Hi Kara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for health started early—my mom was always looking for natural ways to keep my brother and me well, using nutrition, supplements, and functional testing. That exposure sparked my interest in how to care for the body holistically.
Initially, I wanted to be an interior designer, but after a friend introduced me to the field of dietetics, I realized it was the perfect fit. I went on to study dietetics, completed a supervised internship, and became a registered dietitian.
I spent over eight years working with WIC, supporting women, infants, and children. During that time, I had my son, and his health challenges pushed me to dig deeper into root-cause healing. That experience shifted my perspective and led me to where I am now—an integrative and holistic dietitian running my own practice.
I became disillusioned with the quick-fix, symptom-focused approach of traditional healthcare and felt called to help people truly heal through nutrition, lifestyle, and a personalized, whole-body approach.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not—it’s been a challenging journey. College and the unpaid internship were both demanding, and preparing for the credentialing exam took a lot of time and focus. Working at WIC was intense, especially given the complex needs many clients faced. Starting my own business added a whole new layer of challenges—navigating the legal setup, marketing, and running a business on top of my work as a dietitian has required a lot of hustle and persistence.
As you know, we’re big fans of Kara Lee Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Kara Lee Wellness is an, integrative nutrition practice dedicated to helping women and children achieve lifelong wellness through a holistic, personalized approach. As a registered dietitian with over a decade of experience—much of it working closely with families through WIC—I specialize in uncovering the root causes of health issues rather than simply treating symptoms.
What sets Kara Lee Wellness apart is the blend of evidence-based nutrition and natural modalities, specialized testing, and a deeply personal, collaborative care experience. I focus on the whole person, not just labs or diagnoses, and I work with each client to create realistic, sustainable changes that support true healing.
My brand is known for its compassion, clarity, and research based approach. I’m most proud of how Kara Lee Wellness empowers women—especially moms—to take back ownership of their health and that of their children, with confidence, education, and grace.
Readers should know that my services include one-on-one consultations, personalized wellness plans, and resources designed to support digestion, hormone balance, inflammation, and more. Whether you’re navigating a chronic condition, postpartum recovery, or just looking to feel better in your body, Kara Lee Wellness exists to guide you toward wholeness.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Lily Nichols, RDN is a great resource for all topics pregnancy, fertility, postpartum. I follow other health professionals that help keep me knowledgeable in integrative and holistic topics. I have to complete continuing education credits for maintaining my license so that ranges quite a bit as far as books and webinars I learn from. Dotted Lines Co. helped a ton with the legal side of my business and there is a variety of people I follow for business and marketing, but that varies quite a bit as well.
