Hi Kaijah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve dealt with major skin concerns my entire life which sparked a deep interest in turning that around, not just for myself but for others too. My journey began in college where I focused on brows and lashes. Once I had the funds to seek professional skincare help, it led to a life changing opportunity: a mentorship and job at the very company that helped me. Their encouragement inspired me to get licensed and I haven’t looked back since. My startup began in Houston, Texas where I honed my skills and grew my client base. About four years later, I decided to bring that experience back to my hometown in Michigan where I’ve continued to grow my business and help others achieve their best skin.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t quite call the road smooth but I definitely appreciate the journey because it’s made me as qualified and experienced as I am today. There were plenty of awkward learning moments like figuring out the right waxing techniques and mastering precision. Beauty school also came with its own set of challenges from navigating different personalities to pushing through long hours of practice. There’s also the constant need to modernize techniques and stay updated with industry trends which can be demanding but necessary. Of course, there were moments of self-doubt as well… especially when realizing I’d made a mistake on a client. Those experiences only pushed me to learn and improve though because I am truly passionate about what I do. Despite the hurdles, I feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to grow and thrive. Each challenge has only made me better.

Bae Kai Aesthetics is a full service beauty spa that specializes in body waxing and corrective skincare. We also offer on-call massages, yoni steaming, brow tinting/lamination, 1-on-1 trainings, and plant-based skincare products. What sets us apart is our commitment to inclusivity. We proudly serve all races and genders focusing on each client’s unique needs rather than just making a sale. Our goal is for every client to leave with personalized skincare knowledge and the feeling that they’ve made a new best friend. We prioritize comfort and customization, ensuring each service is tailored to individual concerns and goals. Brand wise, I am most proud of how my own skin reflects my dedication, it serves as a living testament to the effectiveness of our treatments and products.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I view risk taking as essential to business growth, as long as it’s calculated and intentional. Staying stagnant isn’t an option if the goal is to expand. I believe that success often comes hand-in-hand with failure, and each failure is a learning opportunity. I’ve taken several financial risks to upgrade equipment knowing that these improvements would enhance the quality of my services. I’ve also experimented with bold content strategies to increase brand visibility, understanding that pushing boundaries is sometimes necessary. One of my biggest risks was moving back to Michigan with no established clientele other than family and friends. In my very first month back, I decided to run an Instagram ad not knowing what to expect but it paid off. I ended up being fully booked for the month. That experience showed me the power of trusting the process and believing in my brand.
