Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Jeska.
Hi Kelly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Wild Heart Yoga was founded and developed by me, Kelly Jeska. The idea came from a time of great change in my life when I was tired of being afraid. Afraid to be myself, afraid to pursue my own dreams, afraid to start something new. I worked for so long to help others achieve what they set out to do (don’t get me wrong, I learned a lot), but my own goals were often set aside and I was placed inside this container where people wanted me to be. I craved freedom. After a lot of hard work and introspection, I decided to set my heart free and start my own business. It came about so naturally that it’s almost like it was waiting for me this whole time. Thus, Wild Heart Yoga was born!
It is my goal to hold space in the yoga practice for everyone who wishes to find freedom and nurture or invigorate their wild heart. The yoga classes I lead focus on breath, balance, strength, flexibility, as well as thought-provoking themes that not only support the mind and spirit, but the body as well. My intention is to guide you through breathwork, meditation, and bio-mechanically sound movement so that you may find freedom and learn more about yourself by holding loving space for every facet of your being.
“The mark of a wild heart is living out the paradox of love in our lives. It’s the ability to be tough and tender, excited and scared, brave and afraid — all in the same moment. It’s showing up in our vulnerability and our courage, being both fierce and kind.”
-Brené Brown, from Braving the Wilderness
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, starting my own business has actually been pretty smooth due in large part to the experience I gained working for different yoga studios, as well as my professional background in the marketing field with a well-known online yoga platform and various independent clients. Creating the branding and the website was the easy part. Getting the word out and inviting folks to try my classes was challenging at first, and social media management still isn’t easy, but now I have a solid group of students who attend regularly. Maintaining consistency has been slightly challenging since I am the only yoga teacher with my business – when I am sick, I have to cancel classes instead of bringing in a substitute.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a professional, outside of my yoga teaching, I work as a substitute teacher for the local district. I will be attending grad school in the fall to become a school counselor. Mental health and wellness is a huge proponent to yoga and I am hoping to utilize what I have learned from my studies and my schoolwork in grad school to provide the tools necessary for children to navigate the ups and downs of life.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for anyone starting out on a business adventure would be to seek professional and local help with creating your branding and websites. Web presence is huge, and the technology and SEO requirements are constantly changing! Make sure you find someone knowledgeable and open to your ideas.
