Today we’d like to introduce you to Klaudia Jakubiak.
Klaudia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Travel Critic started as a passion project in 2014 – I was totally miserable in my corporate job out of college and wanted a creative outlet. I started to post all my favorite places to eat, stay and play and showcase my experiences to my audience. Through content creation, I’ve had an opportunity to collaborate with hotels, restaurants and most notably, Delta Air Lines. Most recently, I launched a brand called Airport Goods which creates products for a calming travel experience.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Most certainly NOT – in the beginning, there was a lot of pressure to constantly post and capture the ‘best photos’ which became exhausting and at times, would steal the essence of why I was traveling. There was also a lot of comparison because you are constantly watching others’ highlight reels and comparing to yourself. I also felt imposter syndrome when I was selected as a Delta Air Lines ambassador because I did not have nearly as many followers as the other creatives so I was feeling like I wasn’t enough.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I toggle between having a professional corporate career as well as creating my own business that allows me to be creative. As a creative, I love showcasing my unique travels and recently created a brand called, Airport Goods, which includes various products necessary for a calming travel experience. I am most proud of quitting my corporate job and traveling throughout Asia with no backup plan, it was the first time I truly felt alive and exhilarated by the world we live in. I think what sets me apart is that I am very realistic with what I post on social media, I don’t ever want to come off ‘perfect’ because I don’t think it’s a fair representation of life (it has it’s ups and downs)!
Any big plans?
I am looking forward to creating more fun projects with Airport Goods as well as being able to travel for 1-2 months at a time since I recently started a remote job!
