Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Baird.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story really began with a love for people and storytelling. I’ve always been fascinated by how words shape perception, how connection can change lives, and how visibility creates power. Early in my career, I worked in spaces where I saw the impact of good communication—and the damage that can happen without it. That’s what drew me to PR: the ability to help people, brands, and movements tell their stories with intention and integrity.
As I grew professionally, I also became more rooted in community. That’s what led me to my role as PR Director and Secretary at PS Society. I saw how real the loneliness epidemic was, especially for women, and I knew this work was bigger than promotion—it was about purpose.
Alongside my work in cannabis science and advocacy, I’ve helped shape narratives that not only educate and protect consumers but also elevate women-led voices, nonprofit missions, and the communities we serve. My journey hasn’t been linear, but it’s been intentional. Every chapter has taught me how to lead with empathy, strategy, and a deep sense of service.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many women navigating leadership, identity, and purpose, I’ve had seasons where I self-sabotaged—whether it was playing small, doubting my voice, or aligning with people who didn’t have my best interest at heart. I’ve been burned by friends and colleagues I trusted. I’ve had moments where I allowed other people’s energy, opinions, or intentions to shape my decisions and derail my focus. And I own that.
Some of the hardest lessons came from situations where I gave too much grace to people who took advantage of it. I’ve experienced what it feels like to pour into the wrong rooms and then question my own worth when it wasn’t reciprocated. But I don’t regret it—because every time I’ve been burned, I’ve also been refined.
Each setback taught me something I now carry into my professional life: the power of boundaries, the importance of trusting my gut, and the non-negotiable need to protect my peace. Now, I lead with more clarity, confidence, and conviction—not because the road has been easy, but because I’ve walked it fully awake.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m currently the PR Director for PS Society, a nonprofit focused on combatting the loneliness epidemic through connection, growth, and service—and I also work as a PR Specialist for a cutting-edge science lab. I live in two very different worlds, but the core of what I do is the same: I help brands and organizations shape how they’re seen, how they connect, and how they grow.
My specialty is in brand management and long-term strategy. I’m not here for quick wins—I’m focused on building lasting narratives, relationships, and reputations. Whether I’m working on nonprofit storytelling or science-backed consumer education, I’m always thinking five steps ahead.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built. The partnerships I’ve nurtured haven’t just resulted in great campaigns—they’ve turned into long-term relationships that support real impact. In this industry, consistency and trust are everything.
What sets me apart? Honestly—my tenacity and audacity. I’m not afraid to ask bold questions, take up space, or advocate fiercely for the people and missions I believe in. I don’t follow trends—I build strategy. And I don’t just pitch stories—I create them.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When it comes to mentorship, my biggest piece of advice is this: find someone you not only admire, but someone who will be real with you. The best mentors aren’t just cheerleaders—they’re truth-tellers. You want someone who’s willing to have the hard conversations, challenge your thinking, and hold you accountable while still believing in your potential. That kind of mentorship will stretch you in all the right ways.
As for networking, I always say: don’t just look for rooms in your own industry—look for communities that align with your values. The best connections I’ve made weren’t always at cannabis or PR events—they were at wellness events, nonprofit panels, and women-led spaces where the mission matched my mindset.
I also don’t believe in ‘just showing up’ anymore. When I walk into a room, I’ve already identified 1–2 people I want to connect with, and I go in knowing what I want to walk away with—whether it’s a contact, a collab, or a real conversation. Intentionality is the secret. When you lead with purpose, the right people find you.
