Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Copes.
Hi Taylor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey in the fitness industry started modestly — in a tiny college apartment. I began offering remote personal training while balancing classes, driven by a passion to help others live stronger, healthier lives.
I moved back home and started running in-person workouts out of a home garage. It wasn’t fancy — simple equipment and a vision that was bigger than the four walls around me.
Eventually, I took the leap into an 800-square-foot leased space, focusing purely on personal training. It was small, scrappy, and absolutely perfect for the next phase of growth. Every session, every early morning, and every late night was a step toward something greater.
Today, that vision has expanded into a 7,000-square-foot facility in a small rural town — offering 24/7 gym access, personal training, tanning, massage therapy, group workout classes, a golf simulator, and an infrared sauna. We’ve built not just a gym, but a true community — a place where people of all backgrounds can prioritize their health, find encouragement, and invest in themselves.
Coming from humble beginnings keeps me grounded. I believe fitness should be accessible, welcoming, and something people want to make a part of their daily lives. My mission is simple: to help as many people as possible realize their potential — whether they live five minutes away or have to drive a little farther because they know it’s worth it.
The dream keeps evolving, but the heart behind it stays the same.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to where we are today was far from easy. In the beginning, there were countless sleepless nights filled with uncertainty — wondering if I could make rent and questioning whether I could build something sustainable from the ground up. Financial risk was a constant reality, and every decision carried significant weight. There were moments when burnout felt inevitable — balancing long hours, countless responsibilities, and personal sacrifice just to keep moving forward. Facility challenges, unexpected repairs, and the growing pains of expanding the business stretched me in ways I never anticipated. But every challenge — every late night, every setback, every moment of doubt — became fuel. It strengthened my commitment to build something lasting and meaningful for this community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Fit Physique is a full-service fitness facility located in the heart of a small town, built on the belief that health and fitness should be accessible, welcoming, and sustainable for everyone. We offer 24/7 gym access, personal training, group fitness classes, tanning, massage therapy, an infrared sauna, and a state-of-the-art golf simulator — all under one roof.
While many fitness centers focus solely on memberships, we specialize in personal training and individualized coaching. We pride ourselves on meeting people where they are — whether they’re stepping into a gym for the first time, getting back into fitness after a break, or pushing toward the next level of performance. We work to create a supportive, energizing environment where members feel comfortable, confident, and motivated to achieve their goals.
What sets us apart is our strong community atmosphere and personalized service. In a world where big-box gyms can feel overwhelming or impersonal, we have created a space where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported. Our staff genuinely cares about our members’ progress — not just during a workout, but in the day-to-day journey of building a healthier lifestyle.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the authenticity we’ve built. Fit Physique isn’t a brand that promises quick fixes or shortcuts. We stand for hard work, long-term change, and a real commitment to helping individuals become the best version of themselves. Every service we offer is designed to complement that mission — whether it’s the motivation of a group workout, the accountability of one-on-one coaching, or the recovery support of massage and infrared therapy.
For readers who may not know us yet, I would want them to know this:
We’re more than a gym — we’re a destination for positive change. Whether you’re looking for a place to train hard, a place to find community, or a place to simply start your fitness journey, Fit Physique is built for you. We welcome every person, every goal, and every story.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor or building a strong network doesn’t always look the same for everyone — especially when you’re in a small town or building something from scratch. For me, mentorship has come in many different forms over the years. Some of my best “mentors” have been people I’ve never met in person — authors, podcast hosts, business leaders, and coaches who share their knowledge openly and consistently. I’ve learned a lot by studying the systems, habits, and mindset of people who’ve done what I want to do — even if I had to piece it together on my own.
My biggest advice: Don’t wait for the “perfect” mentor. They may not show up with a title or a formal invite. Sometimes mentorship looks like listening, watching, and applying — even from a distance. Be intentional about who you learn from, and always be willing to invest time (and sometimes money) into growing your skillset and your mindset.
