Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Crawley.
Hi Ryan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As far as my art journey goes I’d say it started with comics when I was younger. My older brother used to draw a variety of cartoons and my mother would repetitively draw shapes while on the phone. That was intriguing and led me to continue chasing after art in high school which then translated into college where I got my BFA with an emphasis in painting.
Flash forward to before my daughter was born I wanted to make sure that I tried my hand at being a professional artist. Treating myself as an artist, saying I’m an artist, and being an artist. It took a while to get here, and lots of hurdles to make it happen, but each day turns out as another step to continue pursuing the artist journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road, there’s always something that pops up. Be it taxes, a misunderstanding with a customer, or creative blocks! It all comes at the most inopportune time and you just have to deal with it. That’s part of being an entrepreneur and chasing after your passions.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My artwork is primarily is paint on canvas and I’m known for colorful abstracts.
I’m proud that I’ve continued creating work that explains my thoughts, feelings, emotions and that the community resonates with them. Seeing that others can appreciate my work continues to inspire me.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
follow and learn to understand those you admire – their work and how they approach things. Of course it’s not straightforward but work to build relationships with them and to get a better understanding of their worth ethic. Then figure out how to implement relevant things into your daily practice.
It’s not easy. It never will be. There are so many internal things that you’ll have to quiet and continue moving forward so action is the most important thing you can do.
