Conversations with Corbin LaParl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corbin LaParl.

Hi Corbin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After graduating from Specs Howards School Of Media Arts I began my videography carrer in independent feature films. Starting out as a production assistant and worked my way up to gaffing on the 3rd feature film. Once the incentives went away in Michigan I began my first production company. Filming commercial work for construction companies, small brands, but also a World Championship snowmobile race team. In 2017 I reformatted my business and changed the name to Refracted Film and began offering wedding collections.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been the furthest from a smooth road. Starting out struggles were finding clients and having consistent work coming in. Keeping enough work starting out and then continuing to hold that as well as keep up with the rapidly advancing gear and wearing all the hats a business owner has to wear. I was working multiple jobs to continue to chase my passion but then it transitions from a chase to get clients to a chase to keep up with them.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Refracted Film specializes in events as well as branding/commercial work for small businesses. I have filmed 125+ weddings all across the country. My furthest weddings were filming in Hawaii and Alaska. I have helped brands grow from starting out to reaching record sales. Some of my video work has played on the big screens at Comerica Park and Ford Field. I have also shot some weddings of rather well know clientele which I cant say due to NDA agreements. My positive attitude and willingness to get the shot is imperative while filming. Sometimes it takes time and patience, other times things happen so quick you need to be prepared and ready 100% of the time and my ability to capture those moments is what sets me apart from others.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can reach me through my contact page on my website. The biggest support is sharing work via social media!
