Rising Stars: Meet Camille Steverson of Grand Rapids, MI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Steverson.

Hi Camille, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Second Vibess started as a side hustle between two friends who shared a passion for fashion, creativity, and community. Kaitlynn and I met in college and quickly bonded over our love for thrifting, styling, and curating unique looks. What began as late-night reworking sessions and pop-up shops turned into something much bigger than we imagined.

After college, we realized this wasn’t just a hobby, it was something we both felt deeply connected to and wanted to pursue full-time. So, we took a leap of faith and built Second Vibess into a storefront and creative space in downtown Grand Rapids. We’ve grown from selling vintage pieces to designing one-of-a-kind upcycled clothing, hosting community events, and supporting other small businesses and local artists.

At the core of Second Vibess is the belief that fashion can be sustainable, expressive, and community-driven. We’re proud to have created a space where people feel seen, inspired, and connected.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced as young women in business is being taken seriously. Especially in an industry that often underestimates creatives and entrepreneurs who don’t follow a traditional path. As two women in our twenties building a brand from the ground up, we’ve had to constantly prove our value, our vision, and our ability to lead.

We’re also operating in a space that intentionally goes against the grain of fast fashion. Our focus on sustainability, upcycling, and conscious consumerism often means we’re educating customers, shifting mindsets, and carving out our own lane, without a blueprint. It’s not always easy, but we believe in what we’re doing. And every challenge has pushed us to become more resourceful, more resilient, and more rooted in our mission.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Second Vibess, our work goes far beyond selling clothes. We source, curate, and rework vintage and secondhand fashion to create a collection that’s both sustainable and expressive. Every piece in our store is hand-selected or custom-designed, blending style with intention.

On a daily basis, we’re involved in everything from design and production to social media, event planning, and running the storefront. We collaborate with local artists and vendors, host community-centered events, and use our platform to uplift voices and causes we care about.

Our work is grounded in creativity, connection, and impact. We’re not just building a business, we’re creating a movement that challenges fast fashion and makes space for authenticity, sustainability, and community care.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Honestly, it takes drive, patience, and a lot of faith in yourself. We’ve had to push through moments of burnout, doubt, and financial stress, but our passion keeps us going.

You also have to be creative not just in making clothes, but in figuring out how to make things work when you don’t have all the answers or resources. We’ve learned to pivot, improvise, and make the most out of what we have.

And being connected to our community is a big part of it. This isn’t just about clothes, it’s about people. You need to care about the impact you’re making and be willing to grow, both personally and as a business.
