Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachelle Conroy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2020, our family HVAC business was briefly shut down due to the pandemic. At home for the first time in years, and after cleaning out all my closets and deep cleaning my home, i needed a new outlet. I discovered tikok, like many others, and was hooked. At first I exclusively watched funny cat and dog videos, but one night I stumbled on beauty tok. Shortly after, I started filming makeup and skincare reviews, and enjoyed it so much. At this time, there were very few over 50 women sharing makeup tips, skin care routines and beauty trends so it was a space that needed to be filled. I also started an instagram account sharing the same type of content. The welcome and acceptance I had was nothing short of incredible. After a year or two, I moved away from strictly doing beauty content to adding in lifestyle videos, story telling, vlogging and more, and I share my genx point of view on all sorts of subjects. Some highlights of my content creating include having a viral instagram reel hit 104 million views, I made it through the first round of selection for the Sephora Beauty squad which I had just applied for on a whim, have made so many friends with like-minded genx women, and I have learned to embrace aging in a world that favors anti-aging.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The beauty space can be unkind to older women. Brands that send makeup products in PR packages don’t send the same fun things to mature women, they will send us skincare. To me, that is saying I am not worth having an opinion about a blush or a lip gloss, but skincare is obviously a concern with me because of my age. Nothing could be further from the truth, older women love makeup still, and are amazing consumers with real opinions and concerns.
It also can be frustrating trying to keep up with each new product launch and trend, the beauty world is fast and furious and it can be overwhelming.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have worked full time at my family owned HVAC business for 30 years. Before that I worked in radio, which I believe helped me with being on camera and talking easily to an audience. Working full time and being a content creator can be a little tricky at times, but I have found the perfect balance that works for me.
With content creating, I have found a great niche in providing genx slices of life, the remember when point of view that reasonates with so many other genxers. I love anything 1980’s and the nostalgia that comes from making content featuring 80’s music, fashion, fragrance and more.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I appreciate every single person who follows me on any of my platforms, every like, comment and share makes the hours of filming and editing worth it. I love to collaborate with small family business, as I know how important it is to support them. An instagram message is the best way to contact me, as I check them daily.
