Conversations with Klep

Today we’d like to introduce you to Klep.

Hi Klep, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got started as a teenager in a rural-ish area, I had problems connecting with people, or much of anything, and didn’t have any source of an expressive outlet. Upon discovering hip-hop I had found a way to express myself that felt more like me, and not what everyone else in our immediate area was into. It wasn’t long after becoming a listener that I knew that I wanted to try my hand in it as well. I picked up a notepad and a pen with some instrumentals and got to it. I wrote and recorded songs as a group known as Bio Killaz, that is still active today as well, and our momentum has continuously grown over the years. Now fully committed to an active solo career as well under the stage name Klep, which is also the alias used under Bio Killaz.

The name Klep stems from the stage performance and wild antics that I’ve always had. Once I hit the stage, we know who is about to steal the show, the Man of Steal himself, Klep. Being charismatic on stage and fully immersing myself into whichever song is being performed is how I stand out uniquely in my act.

Today both Bio Killaz and Klep as a solo act stay active musically with new album releases, tours, shows, music videos, and an ever growing merch line! You cn keep up with us at www.BioKillaz.com, and our music is available on all DSP’s!!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
All of the good things in life don’t come easy, they come with a challenge presented before them. There have been several bumps in the road, obstacles, and slight detours, but there has also always been a solution and motivation to keep on fighting to continue the journey.

Some of the struggles along the way were when I became a family man at a young age. Without hesitation I put my music on hold to do what had to be done for the sake of my family. I continued to create, but not at the same capacity as I did before becoming a father. Of course that struggle became harder when there was a split between my daughters mother and myself. This lead down a road of addiction and mental health issues that would take years to overcome and put strains on every aspect of my life. Thankfully with the help of my wife, loving family, and four children as a support team we have overcome any of the obstacles that once plagued the path to success and happiness.

Today, the struggles are focused on maintaining balance, as the most serious issues of life have been worked out. These trials and tribulations have bled into the music you hear coming out from Klep currently, with the hopes to help others as we explore some of the struggles I’ve faced personally.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am best described as an underground hip-hop artist. Ranging in styles from alternative, to horrorcore, to boom-bap, and chopper styles sometimes as well. I am always looking to try new things and grow as an artist/emcee.

I am currently most proud of my latest solo work “Chatter in the Skull”, the recent full length album released everywhere you can stream music!! There is a super dope lyric/music video of me as a rapping severed head, titled “The Chatter in the Skull”, available on the Bio Killaz YouTube channel!!

I feel what sets me apart from others is my unique style on the mic and my stage presence. We, as Bio Killaz, have performed in front of crowds that aren’t even hip-hop oriented and have still won them over. As a solo artist my concept albums that always tell a tale of morality can also help set me apart from the rest, I strive to be unique and interesting in my styles of writing and flows of cadences as well. Keeping song topics unique to ideas I feel are original, or at least a different take on a certain topic if we were to talk of a trending issue.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would say that staying true to yourself and your beliefs is the most important for my own personal measurements of success. As I have lyrically mentioned in my song “The Winds of Change” I would say it is important to remember that “I stay keepin’ it realer than most, my biggest fear is a ghost of myself controllin’ my soul and I disappear to the host, NO!” Holding true to who you are in this world today is very important. Stand on business, defend the innocent youth, and be kind, because the world needs all the good people it can get!!
