Meet Damon Bomar II of Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Damon Bomar II.

Hi Damon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Detroit, I always wanted to create, help people, and do amazing things along the way. As someone who is proactive, hands-on, and loves to learn, it became easy to acquire an appetite for what I enjoy today. Sports and design have always resonated with me the most. From the earliest games watched, played, or had conversations about, sports were always in the middle of it all, specifically basketball. The design came from curiosity and reverse engineering in cartoons, billboards, video games, and posters/trading cards. The commonality within them was how I could foster friendships and relationships through those things and find passion and purpose along the way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Looking back on things today, I struggled with being confident and unapologetically myself. Imposter syndrome is one of a kind, the amount of experiences, opportunities, and spaces I got to be a part of sometimes doesn’t seem real. When doing or being something you have never been, you question it sometimes, no matter the magnitude or scale. I’d talk myself out of pursuing things I was invited/qualified for solely because I didn’t feel ready or deserving of it. As I got older and took on more ventures, I believe I am exactly where I need to be in life, even through those hardships.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a multi-faceted digital creative who specializes in graphic design. My work transcends both audiences and clients across multiple industries, such as sports, business, and entertainment. I enjoy creating beyond social media by implementing content strategies for clients, creating multipurpose assets/templates for sports programs, and being their biggest supporter through their craft/purpose.

I am proud of my resilience and consistency for the Sports Business Ventures Next Wave Award. The amount of time and sacrifice I put into my career with strong faith and a support system speaks volumes. Among all the spaces I have been in (NBA, YahooSports, SLAM, Detroit Pistons, EMU), it allowed me to grow beyond my expectations and vision. Being available to those not seen or heard mattered to me the most in my journey as a black creative in sports!

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I enjoy writing/journaling in my time away from the “fun” things I do. It keeps me grounded and consistent when it comes to being creative. Having my channel on Instagram “Thank You God For Another 24” allowed me to speak over not just my faith but my foundation in itself daily with where/what I am feeling internally to a community!
