Meet Jayne Tibbets of Hudsonville/Grand Rapids

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayne Tibbets.

Hi Jayne, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in West Michigan in a landscaping family. My parents have always had a huge appreciation for the beauty of nature, and they instilled that in me. My father would make arrangements for the front of church on weekends. Eventually I ended up doing the same, and I loved experimenting with the wildflowers that grew on our property. I got my first job in a flower shop when I was in high school, and I was hooked. I worked at a Molesta Floral in Grand Rapids after I graduated, where I began helping with wedding design and learning from some of the best designers around. After our first child was born in 2003, I stayed home to be a full time Mama. I never intended to continue in design, but over the years I did weddings and occasions for family members, which gained huge momentum over recent years. I am proud to say that I have never had to advertise, all of my business comes from referrals from happy clients! I love seeing the planning process through from the initial consultation all the way to the end.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is true that almost every weekend of our beautiful Michigan weather I am working. But I am so grateful for the opportunity to work from home and be my own boss! I have been blessed beyond measure by being able to stay home to raise our 4 kids, and I am so grateful for that time. Now that they are ages 15-22 and they don’t need me every moment, my business has grown at just the right time. I also love being a part of these celebrations of love, and my designs will be remembered forever in photos.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a full-service wedding designer. I design floral bouquets, corsages, boutonnières, ceremony decor, centerpieces, cake flowers, you name it! I always tell my brides that I will put flowers on anything they will let me. Especially flower dogs, my favorite! I also LOVE designing prom and dance flowers for local schools.

I believe my communication totally sets me apart from the larger market designers. I try to respond as soon as I can to all communication, hopefully in less than 24 hours. Also, I provide full service delivery and set up, which means that I will come and set up EVERYTHING that is involved in your order, so you don’t have to worry about a thing! And the couple’s family members don’t have to spend the day trying to place flowers and centerpieces. My absolute favorite party of the day is showing the bride her bouquet and seeing her reaction!

What are your plans for the future?
I plan on continuing in my business and serving the brides and grooms of West Michigan. I have been hiring help more often as needed, which takes some of the load off myself.
