Today we’d like to introduce you to Blaine Siesser
Hi Blaine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started taking photographs while I was in college at the University of Michigan, influenced by two key people. The first was another student I met while studying abroad who aspired to be a photojournalist. I was incredibly impressed by her Nikon camera; it had so many buttons and features that seemed otherworldly to me. I couldn’t imagine operating a machine like that, but it intrigued me.
The second influence was a friend who began photographing weddings around 2002. He became really successful and created a website to showcase his work, which I thought was amazing! I had never considered wedding photography before, but when I saw his creative approach, it opened my eyes to the possibilities within that field, far beyond what I had imagined.
The year 2005 felt like the wild west of wedding photography due to the digital revolution, which brought newfound freedom and creativity that surpassed the constraints of film photography prior to 2000. His work truly embraced that creativity, inspiring me to pursue photography in the same way.
As a senior in college, I took a leap of faith and bought my first camera. It felt quite expensive at the time, but I quickly got the hang of it and began photographing my friends and roommates. That was the beginning of my journey into photography.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been 20 years since I started, and the journey has truly been blessed in so many ways. I give God all the glory for my success. There have been countless moments when I could have failed, and I feel like God has saved me and guided me through many trials and challenges. Sometimes, I experience a kind of supernatural patience when dealing with challenging clients, and I’ve noticed miraculous qualities of light that enhance the photographs and moments in special ways.
There have been times when I was so sick, yet I still had the energy to keep going. I also went through a season of depression, but I managed to continue creating during that time and move beyond those feelings. Ultimately, my passion lies in blessing people with photographs, giving them meaningful memories of themselves and their experiences. This passion drives me forward, no matter what challenges I face.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer who specializes in capturing people, particularly in the context of luxury weddings. However, I see my work as broader than just events. I love to photograph individuals in their unique environments and moments, using a style that blends fine art with the authentic persona of each person.
I prefer images that are raw, real, and full of emotion. I appreciate the spectrum of humanity—its beauty, age, emotion, and depth. I have a special gift for sensing the deeper aspects of people and capturing moments that reflect this. My clients especially appreciate my patience, calmness, and passion during weddings.
I work hard, and people can sense my commitment and the way I lead my teams to create beautiful work every weekend. My photography has been published worldwide in various blogs and magazines, and I regularly travel around the globe to document events for my clients.
My ideal clients appreciate art, fashion, and beauty but also value laughter, family, good times, and close friendships.
What makes you happy?
Freedom brings me joy. I love having an open road, a flexible schedule, and a blank slate. I truly cherish spontaneity and any time I can spend without constraints or obligations, whether it’s a few days or a few weeks. As a wedding photographer, my life revolves around significant commitments on Saturdays throughout the spring, summer, and fall. However, in the winter, I get the opportunity to explore, create, and enjoy a more relaxed use of my time.
