

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Lage
Hi David , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, I’m not sure how far back you want to go but I certainly did not grow up with a silver spoon. I grew up in a household with both my parents having disabilities and the challenges associated with that. My mother is Deaf, and my father has Epilepsy. With that I grew up fast and grew up hard. But within that childhood I established a sense of appreciation for opportunities and worked hard, sacrificing my now for a better tomorrow. I worked hard to finish in the top 10% of my high school which led me to academic scholarships alongside low-income scholarships. I was able to attend 4 years of college for free which ultimately led me to business management. I took a job as an insurance agent for a new State Farm office and helped grow and manage that new agency to be one of the top agencies in the state. From there, the agent I worked for decided to close the doors and become an independent agency for more freedom and control. He offered me the opportunity to follow him to another state and start up this company from scratch. I decided to take that risk and found myself with monthly paychecks of $200, 300 and $400 per month via commissions to live off of. Fast forward, I eventually moved back to my home state and continued to grow the business. Keep in mind I was a single father with full custody of my daughter the entire time. Nevertheless, I continued to work hard and prospered, so much so that I was able to outgrow the owners of the agency and as of 2023 purchased the entire company from both owners. Since then, we have grown and excelled, hiring more employees that are newer to the industry and training the next generation of insurance professionals. We have earned the national title of top 25 agencies for Progressive in 2023 among many other titles and accomplishments. Now we are in our heading into our 3rd hear of ownership and we are continuing to grow, expand and introduce new talent to the industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road by any means. There were many sacrifices and long hours to get to where I am today. Even taking the struggles of my youth out of the equation, my professional career has not been easy. I wanted a better life for my daughter, and I wanted opportunities for her that I never had. With the passing of her mom, I was the only role model for her and failure was not an option. Countless nights of being overwhelmed I continued to work harder than everyone else. Long hours with the idea that investing into my future would pay off. Living like nobody else so I can live like nobody else was my motto. It’s hard watching your friends live life while you’re building something. Through God grace, I have been presented with great professional role models and opportunities that has carved my way to success. Nothing in life is given to most of us, but rather opportunities. The determination to see and appreciate opportunities is what can change someone’s trajectory in life. I should not be where I am today if you looked at 7th grade me. My upbringing, my family struggles, my situations and hurdles. At some point you decide to be a victim of your circumstances, or you decide to find the good pieces to salvage and work hard to avoid the pieces that destroy. Smooth road, silver spoon….no, that was not my cards. But hard work, great influences, the grace of God and perseverance can change a family tree for generations to come.

We are heading down the road of new AI technology and as a business we are constantly exploring the new features and improvements in this segment. Learning how to successfully incorporate this technology into our business model is essential to our continued success and growth. Infusing this with the core principles of customer service and handling each interaction with the heart of a teacher allows us to mesh the old with the new and embrace technology instead of fearing it.
