Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Horn
Hi Bruce, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Corey Weedon and Jon Fett walk into my house drunk as hell, screaming my name. “Dude you have to come see this!” The year 2000 started off with my friends turning 21 before I did. Luckily we knew the owner well at Dirty’s Bar and Grill (real name) and he was always cool with me hanging out.
We walk into the bar and there were 2 dudes on stage singing Steve Miller, ‘The Joker.’ The bongo player was very interesting to watch as he was playing 2 drums and definitely was at the “wrong gig.” The singer/guitarist sang, in place of “wanna shake your tree,” “I wanna shake your big fat titties,” and we died laughing. Corey and Jon had this hair brained scheme to make a cover band to literally pay for our drinks at the bars we frequented. I just had to teach them. 3 weeks later we had our first show at Dirt Dog’s aka Dirty’s. It was packed. We had 17 songs and had to play them all again due to the crowds engagement. At that time, our name was Werewolves (long story behind the name) and it wasn’t long before we were booked weekly at our favorite local bars.
Corey eventually left the band and we needed a new name. Jon’s father played bass in a jazz band in the 1970’s named after him, John Fett Quartet. We thought it would be hilarious for many reasons and took out the H and became the Jon Fett Quartet.
Jon also had to leave the band 2 years later. We had such a great following that we decided to keep the name for obvious reasons and because, again, it was hilarious that he wasn’t even in the band. Fast-forward to 2025, 30 something members later and I still run the Jon Fett Quartet with the best musicians I know. Tenacity, perseverance and plain old hard work got us to be where we are today. Booked every weekend and playing the music we want to play, not top 40 or radio hits. I truly believe it’s our set list that keeps people coming back to shows. We learn 10 songs a week and know over 300 songs together so we rarely repeat set lists.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This band has always had it’s ups and downs. Members that didn’t fully understand the vision were the struggles I had to deal with. I, and my good friends I started this band with, based it on playing the less heard hits or songs that other bands will never touch along with the integrity of keeping what works; good quality rock n’ roll. Some members went on to try out their own ideas and others stealing ours, both with nowhere near the longevity as the Jon Fett Quartet.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Jon Fett Quartet specializes in playing classic rock n’ roll as close as we can get to the record. JFQ’s slogan is, “We play Rock n’ Roll.” Period. 1960’s-1999 is the time periods we cover with our music. What sets us apart from others, we think, is attention to detail for each song. Going for the harmonies, difficult sections and other obstacles that keep most from playing them. What also sets us apart is our energy. You will never see another cover band that sweats, bleeds and breaks more stuff on stage than us. You witness a sincere passion for music when you see JFQ perform. We also have tons of merchandise items, such as T-shirts, hats, custom pants, custom coats and jackets and even our own brand of hot sauce we partnered with in our community. We play every type of event, wedding, party and any other event you can come up with.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Nothing replaces good business, integrity and staying true to what you believe your products full impact can be.
