Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Weston
Hi Kate, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my career as a physical therapy technician. I was trying to build up my application for grad school. As I worked with patients 1:1 to help them prepare for surgery, recover from surgery, or build basic strength to get rid of pain I decided I wanted to be on the other side of this. I wanted to become a personal trainer and help clients get strong and move functionally so they can continue to do the things they love to do on a daily basis. I became a personal trainer, corrective exercise specialist, and a medical fitness director and then covid hit. When this happened I had to decide if I was going to change my career path or try to continue on virtually. I started hosting live classes on zoom and working with clients 1:1 online. Once fitness centers opened up again I figured everyone would return but most of my clients were loving the convenience of working out at home and feeling and seeing results so they wanted to continue. This is what evolved into my fitness app – Seny. This is a word that comes from body awareness, self realization and ancestral wisdom. I chose this word for my app because we focus on movement for longevity. During my classes I am teaching you how to become aware of your body and how to adapt the movement to work for my clients. We focus on functional movement for longevity. I also remind clients that imperfect, consistent movement is key and your workouts can look different daily. You can show up for 10 minutes in your pajamas and it is still very effective. I think in todays society we get so caught up in what a “workout” is suppose to look like or that it needs to be intense to be effective and that is not the case. For most women we need to focus on low impact movement for our overall health. I am pre/post natal certified as well and I have gone through a c-section and natural birth myself so I have had two very different recoveries. I have a full follow along prenatal program that breaks movement down into all three trimesters and a postpartum program that focuses on slow steady strength that starts with reconnect to your core and pelvic floor.
My goal with Seny is to help women and guide them back to movement so they can become stronger, more confident, and continue to do the things they love to do. We focus on working your body as the system that it is and training your body to move, hinge, bend, twist, in different planes of motion just like humans are intended to do. Movement can be simple and nourishing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This has been a long journey and we have evolved a lot. I am very passionate about human movement and gaining functional strength so I can continue to do the things I love to do and be the best mom so I am always learning and educating myself on this. The tech part of building an online atmosphere for my clients has not been easy because I am not very tech savy. It is hard to wear all the hats as a business owner and I have days where I wonder why I am even doing it and then a client will text me how they were able to pick their daughter up pain free, or they fit in jeans from 5 years ago, or they were able to help their husband move the couch, etc. and then I remember why I love what I do so much. Helping women build strength and confidence without having to be a “gym girl” or spend hours at the gym or attend intense fitness classes. Movement can not only help you physically but mentally and spiritually.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Seny?
Seny is my online fitness app and 1:1 personal training. Seny brings awareness about your mind and body connection so you can continue to do what you love to do. My goal as your personal trainer is to help you see your potential, build your functional strength and connection enabling a lifetime of activity you love. Prenatal, postpartum, and beyond!
Movement on Seny can be as quick as an 8 minute workout or as long as a 45 minute workout but most are around 30 minutes. We focus on functional movement patterns and deep core work to build a strong functional body. Women don’t need to jump into extreme workouts to feel strong and confident we focus on imperfect consistent movement for sustainable results.
We have a fitness app (Seny) where you can become a monthly subscriber or buy specific programs like our prenatal program or postpartum program. With our monthly subscription you get access to all movement. This is past workouts programs, weekly workouts, new programs, live workouts, and our Seny community so you don’t have to do it alone! You can do Seny movement anytime, anywhere we make it adaptable to you.
We also offer 1:1 personal training online to focus on a plan specifically for you, aligning with your goals, equipment, and accommodating your schedule.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Life is busy and chaotic and it does not slow down. Keeping intentional movement a priority in my life has really helped me mentally and physically especially as a busy mom of two littles. It can feel exhausting some days and challenging as a business owner especially because there are so many fitness apps in our world today and I have learned that my movement is not for everyone and that is ok. We focus on functional, sustainable, movement for women so we can continue to do the things we love to do and for longevity.
