Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbie Case
Hi Abbie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Abbie, the owner and creator of Abbie Marie Studios. I am a wife and mom of 2 in a quaint little town in Michigan. I specialize in fine art paintings and custom wedding/event stationery.
I’ve been painting and drawing nearly all my life. As a child, I always had a fascination with painting trees with really intricate branches – so the field of work I’m in now really comes without a shock. As weird as it sounds, I have always had a thing for stationery as well. In grade school, I loved back-to-school shopping. There was something so exciting about getting a crisp new notebook, planner, or even opening up to a fresh clean page. To be honest, I still feel that way.
Once graduating from Grand Valley State University, I decided to establish my own business while working a full-time job as a Graphic Designer. It worked well for a while, but after having our daughter I knew I wanted to take the leap of faith with my business by going full-time so I could stay home with her. Since then, my business has truly flourished and the support has been incredible. Having the ability to be creative on a daily basis within the walls of our home while raising our daughter – and now newly born son – is a dream come true.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe anything worthwhile will have its challenges along the way. In the beginning, I experienced periods of struggle when it came down to maintaining a large enough workload from clients to keep my schedule full or having enough orders come through online to support the print and stationery products I was manufacturing. I knew I needed to find another way to get my name and my business out to other communities, rather than relying solely on the social media algorithms. In 2023, I decided to partake in a local market with other small business owners for the first time. From that moment on, I noticed a huge shift in my business. I started to take on more markets, showing my face and my work in a variety of communities all over this side of the state. The outpouring feedback, support, and sales were incredible – and exactly what my business needed to flourish. In 2024, I participated in over 12 markets and am hoping to be involved in as many as possible in 2025 as I adjust to my new role in life as a mom to two littles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Abbie Marie Studios specializes in wedding and event stationery, landscape and botanical paintings, and commissioned artwork. Inspired by the beauty of nature, I create collections of paintings and stationery with each new upcoming season of the year. I love to challenge myself to see the ways I can improve my work with every new collection. Rather than painting similar scenic locations in a collection, I like to look at the collection as a whole. I think about what kind of paintings would pair well together when creating a gallery wall space in a home, or styling a shelf for example. This idea typically entails one or more landscape pieces, an upclose view of a birth flower, seasonal flowers, an animal, and occasionally a fruit or vegetable still life. When I finish a collection of paintings, I hunt around for old and unique vintage frames to complete their overall look so they are ready to hang in a collector’s home. I believe these two reasons help my work and my collections stand apart from others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m not necessarily sure I would call it luck. I believe any of the success or celebratory moments in my business have come from the hard work and determination that were poured in each and every day.
