Life & Work with Demisha Harper of Fraser, MI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demisha Harper

Hi Demisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Demisha Harper: Home Chef, Mom, Wife, and So Much More

From childhood kitchen adventures to publishing my very own cookbook, my journey with food has been nothing short of fulfilling. My love for cooking started at a young age, rooted in cherished moments with my great-grandmother. She encouraged my creativity by allowing me to walk to Farmer Jack, pick my own ingredients, and experiment with dishes of my choice. My aunt used to have me helping her peel potatoes, teaching me the basics of preparation and patience in the kitchen. My granny and mom, to this day, always have an answer for all of my cooking questions, guiding me through recipes and techniques with their wisdom.

As a teen, I enjoyed cooking for my mom, dad, and siblings and always felt encouraged to explore new flavors and techniques. I place great importance on cooking from scratch and embracing recipes that may seem intimidating at first. I also hear “how do you do it” often, and I want other women, moms, and wives to feel empowered, seeing that you can work full time, be involved with your children, explore new things, learn and grow, be a wonderful wife, and still make time for the things you love—and for me, that’s cooking.

Today, I continue to express my love for food in multiple ways—by hosting dinner parties, teaching friends and family how to cook, and sharing recipes through online videos. My book, Love on a Plate: The Date Night Cookbook, features mains, sides, cocktails, and a few desserts, helping others bring love into their kitchens and onto their tables. It’s my dream to cater for small dinner parties and events and eventually open a restaurant with my husband.

As I continue this journey, I am also working on a new cookbook, expanding my passion for food and sharing it with even more people. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to embrace cooking, create meaningful experiences, and most importantly, to never be afraid to try something new in the kitchen.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve been extremely blessed, but has it been easy? No. It’s been a journey. Self-publishing with no help was met with challenges, but I’ve learned a lot. Mostly, I’ve realized that when one way doesn’t work out, it’s often setting you up for a better avenue in the future. Even posting on my Instagram @TheDemi_Goddess and putting aside a fear of judgment was extremely challenging—and still is to this day. However, every challenge has helped me grow, and I continue to push forward, embracing new opportunities with confidence.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a home chef, content creator, entrepreneur, and now a published author of Love on a Plate: The Date Night Cookbook. I specialize in making cooking feel approachable, enjoyable, and intimate. My focus is on creating dishes that not only taste amazing but also bring people together, whether it’s for a romantic date night, a family gathering, or a special celebration. I love sharing my passion through social media, hosting dinner parties, and teaching others how to make restaurant-quality meals at home. You can find my recipes, cooking tips, and behind-the-scenes moments on my Instagram @TheDemi_Goddess.

One of the things I’m most proud of is self-publishing my cookbook. It was a labor of love, and I navigated every step—from recipe development to marketing—on my own. Seeing people recreate my dishes and enjoy them with their loved ones is the most rewarding feeling.

What sets me apart is my approach to food. I believe in cooking from scratch, embracing bold flavors, and taking on dishes that may seem intimidating at first. I also balance my love for food with a full life—being a wife, a mom, an entrepreneur, and a student—proving that you don’t have to choose between your passions and responsibilities. I want to empower other women to know they can do it all and still make time for the things that bring them joy.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m a self-help book enthusiast—I’ve listened to just about all of them on Audible. Personal development has always been a big part of my journey, and I’m constantly seeking ways to grow and improve. I really enjoy the Calm app for those not-so-perfect days when I need a little peace and meditation. My kids love it too and have started using it as well, which makes it even more special.

However, my biggest source of support is my husband. He’s a rockstar and truly one of the reasons I’m able to balance everything and pursue my passions. Having a strong foundation at home makes all the difference in being able to chase my dreams with confidence.
