Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Lazovski
Hi Shannon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Shannon Lazovski is a keynote speaker, philanthropist, a published writer and a fashion & beauty blogger with over twenty-one years of professional experience in digital marketing, entrepreneurship, and content creation with 15 of those years volunteering in the non-profit sector. A Rochester, Michigan resident, Shannon is a dedicated mother to her two adult children, Livia, age 22 & Mikhail, age 19, and a dedicated wife to her husband, Zoran, of 23 years.
A former Mrs. Metro Detroit and an Oakland County Executive’s 40 Under 40 award recipient, Shannon has proven to be a strong community supporter and is focused on child advocacy, women’s health and women’s rights. What many people don’t know is she is a child survivor of domestic violence and has years of experience as a mental health caseworker assisting the state of Michigan as a contractor supporting families with state provided Child Waivers and/or Parent Waivers. During her years of dedication, she has worked on cases with individuals and families providing advocacy, education, and solutions based on their needs and local government expectations (state provided waivers). She has experience in IEPs, occupational therapy solutions, assisting autistic children placed in regular classrooms and assisting special needs children and adults on field trips and community outings. Her goals with her adult and child clients were and are always dedicated to finding solutions to issues regarding social adjustment and life skills that are difficult for individuals to navigate independently.
Shannon obtained her Psychology degree from Wayne State University and her Psychology of Leadership certification from Cornell University. She has experience working with individuals who live with Depression, Social Pragmatic Communication Disorder, Domestic Violence and Abuse, Intellectual Disorders, Behavioral Disorders, and Developmental Disorders such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Learning Disorders.
Whether there is an individual or community need, Shannon always pushes the envelope and tries to encourage change and help where she can in any situation. In regards to the GMF mission, she believes the mothers of today are raising our leaders of tomorrow, therefore they should be taken care of and put first in society. “Safety & happiness in the home starts with Mom’s safety & happiness. She has the power to be the leader in love in the home and has the ability to instill self confidence and inner strength if the environment allows. “A mom’s hard work and dedication rarely gets enough credit.” she says.
Shannon has experience with over 29 committees and 8 boards, all supporting women and children in Michigan. When she’s not working in the community, she enjoys spending time with her family. She is an entrepreneur and also enjoys promoting small business owners and planning charitable events for Michigan communities and non-profit organizations with a mission to make a meaningful change.
You may have seen her at your local Michigan Fashion Show as she is the Founder & Owner of Detroit Fashion News. Shannon also owns and manages local parenting blog, Detroit Mommies and owns Glameselle Beauty, a professional-grade makeup line for competitive dancers and cheerleders. She has appeared on Fox 2 Detroit, CBS Detroit, Fox 2 Detroit The Nine, CBS Detroit, WDIV Channel 4, TMZ, WXYZ Channel 7 Detroit, WMYD TV20, 96.3 WDVD Radio, WJR Radio and several print & web publications.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not. The journey towards success is rarely linear. A successful person must be resilient and persistent if you want to reach your goals. I’ve fallen many times along the way, both productively and socially, but I wouldn’t be the person I am today if those failures/mishaps didn’t happen.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am proud to be the Founder & President of Glamorous Moms Foundation, a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness in women and expectant mothers. We specialize in maternal/parental education, emotional support programs, in-kind product donations, and monetary support.
Our aim is to focus on life necessities as well as multiple unmet needs of women who are striving to lead safe, happy, and healthy lives. It’s important to us to provide a safe and supportive community offering consistent positive social impact for all women including but not limited to moms and expectant mothers who may suffer from a lack of family support and life essentials.
My proudest moments aren’t my interviews or TV spots. The moments that fill my heart and keep me going are the ones where God keeps me on the ground and puts me to work. There’s just something about locking eyes with a homeless person in the middle of December, handing him a warm new blanket and praying with him. Or, when a pre-teen runs to your table in the gravel parking lot in the city and asks for feminine hygiene products because her mom doesn’t have the money for them. Those are the moments that mean a great deal to me. Those are the moments that remind me why God put me on this earth.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
During my childhood, I loved visiting Yates Cider Mill with my parents and sledding at Stoney Creek Metropark.
