Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Goff
Hi Lindsay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey in the bar industry, managing and bartending in a variety of establishments. It wasn’t long before I noticed a gap in the local market for traveling bartenders. After creating a set of business cards, I began receiving calls from loyal patrons I’d met during my time working at local bars. One thing led to another, and soon I was being contacted by venues in need of professional bartending services.
A few years later, I found myself drawn to the beauty and excitement of the events industry. I quickly realized there was a strong need for a high quality, detail-oriented bar service that could simplify event planning while delivering a truly luxurious experience for guests. That’s when I decided to focus my business on providing exceptional bartending services for weddings and events, ensuring every celebration had the perfect mix of service, style, and sophistication.
In addition to delivering exceptional bar services, I’ve always been committed to fostering a healthy, positive, and inviting work atmosphere for my team. From day one, I’ve made it a priority to create an environment where everyone feels valued, supported, and motivated. I believe that when my team is happy and empowered, it directly translates to a better experience for our clients and guests. Not a moment goes by that I don’t thank my team for being an instrumental part of where Miss Mixology is today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started Miss Mixology, I did not know very much about the events industry. I had only ever attended one wedding before. I contacted other wedding professionals and asked tons of questions, even took some out for drinks so I could pick their brain. I was determined to learn as much as I could as quickly as possible. My first event ever, I borrowed a travel bag and some kitchen towels from my mom along with a few supplies from a bar I was currently working at. Now, we have a 1600 sq ft office space that hosts enough supplies for 100+ weddings!
I was spending more time building a website, relationships, and creating new drink recipes than I was working — which soon led to barely being able to make rent. My mom gave me a small loan and she said “if you make it, you don’t have to pay this back.” Well, I was terrified to be in debt so I dug my heels in and well…made it.
There have been plenty of struggles along the way – each one I am eternally grateful for because it has been a great way to learn and grow. For me, the biggest struggle was trying to figure out how to manage work and life together. I continuously want to grow Miss Mixology, stay a leader in the industry and continue provide our couples and clients with the best bar service they’ve ever experienced — all while growing my family. It was a learning curve, but at this point I’ve been able to successfully manage both without any issues.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Miss Mixology and the accomplishments we’ve made have been the proudest I’ve ever felt. We have changed the game for bar services in the event industry – raising the bar and creating a high standard for client and guest experience. We’re most known for a few things – our simplified planning process, intricate detail coverage, aesthetic bar set ups, house-recipe signature cocktails, and most famously – our No Wait Guarantee.
If you’ve ever waited in line for a drink at a wedding, you know how painful it can be. Once you finally make it to the bar, you’re greeted by a stressed out bartender finding yourself ordering two drinks so you don’t have to wait again. By this time, you might of missed some mingling with friends and family and maybe even the best appetizers! With us, that is not an option. We introduced a No Wait Guarantee to our services in 2021 and haven’t looked back. What this means is, regardless of guest count or what’s on the menu, we guarantee each guest will have a cocktail in hand within a few minutes of cocktail hour starting. There are a lot of procedures in place to make this happen and we call it part of our Miss Mixology Magic.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The Covid-19 Crisis taught me how to pivot on an instant, how to work calmly during chaos and how to lean on others for support. During the beginning of the pandemic, I worked tirelessly to reschedule weddings, refund deposits, keep my team working as much as possible, and most importantly – how not to close for good.
Once things started to open back up slowly, I noticed that people were taking an interest to making high end cocktails at home so we opened our office back up and sold cocktail mixers through the summer and fall. We made our house-recipe signature drinks in mason jars and delivered them to customers’ porches and sold them at Farmers Markets. We also created holiday-themed kits. We called it the “Miss Mix Mixer Fix.” We had a ton of fun making drink mixes, laughing through our masks and enjoying the little bit of income we made so we could pay our rent and wait for events to start back up again!
